The explanation is that this region is an ecotone, that is, the boundary between two ecosystems or biogeographic regions, one typical of the plain (Monte) and the other typical of the mountain (Prepuna). Being an ecotone, they simultaneously inhabit plant and animal species from both regions. Among the typical species of the plain are algarrobos, chañares, taras, and animals such as the boy grey fox, the yandu, the martinette, and within the species typical of the mountain we find many caca, the yales, golden piquito, red fox, to the mountain range, the condor, the blackberry eagle. Both the ñandú and the mountain suri have now disappeared from the Reserve.

The Reserve has unique geological characteristics, which give it great beauty and high scientific and educational value. The presence of a geological fault (fracture) and its displacement has allowed the outcrop of different levels of rocks of sedimentary origin representing a time interval greater than 200 million years.

The reservation is visited annually by more than 4000 students. In addition, about 11000 nature-loving tourists attend, who carry out different activities such as trekking and cycling.

The pools with warmer water are located in the upper part and as you descend towards the river area, they are more temperate.

The sectors are linked to each other with uneven gardens and stone stairs and seem to be part of the landscape. As part of the game, we slide down the slides that connect some pools to each other and jump the waves that are produced mechanically in the water; many use them for leg exercises. Taking advantage of the hydromassages, sunbathing and sharing the quincho area with grills and tables for lunch is part of a day of total relaxation.

The beautiful area presents thermal water from the thaw, which is heated in the depth of the Earth and emerges in springs with a temperature between 35 ° C and 50 ° C.
