For my placement I worked at The Place as a creative learning assistant. My role included administrative duties and helping to set up for and run shows (chaperone). I worked closely with Maria Ryan, Peter Laycock and Lia Prentaki. The placement was a total of 66 hours, where I completed administrative duties and assisted for the smooth running of the shows Fresh 2018, Hansel & Gretel and Camden Secondary Schools Dance Festival. I also helped with the set up of these events along with; The Place youth dance platform and Camden Primary Schools Dance Festival.

Aims and Objectives (for the placement)

· Have a good understanding of the programme and schedule.

.Be able to communicate with schools, youth companies, community groups and members of the public/audience members. 

·Work effectively with project managers and other staff/key personnel to ensure the events, rehearsals and performances run smoothly.

·Chaperoning and assisting performers, choreographers, audience members and others.
 
Learning Goals (personal aims)
·         To gain a greater understanding of what makes a good dance show and how it is run smoothly. 
·         To gain more experience in events management and artistic director duties. 
·         To become more confident in communication skills and office-based jobs.

.Gave the performers their 30 minute warning before they had to go on stage.

.looked at forms for the schools lighting and soundtrack information, created a version of these forms. 

-Hansel & Gretel- 
A dance adaption of Hansel and Gretel that primary schools were invited to watch. 

.Helped at front of house. Looked after the children, creating origami houses and drawing with them whilst they wait for the show.
.Seated the children in their designated seats in the audience. 
.Watched the show and had a discussion about what went well and what could have gone better.

.I also made sure that the monitoring forms and photo/filming consent forms were filled out, signed and handed back.
.I found contact numbers for the main teachers/chaperones of the schools that were late and hadn't arrived yet, so that they could be called. 
. I put up rules, running orders and workshop schedules in each studio that was being used. 
.I stayed in the bar with the schools as they waited for their technical rehearsals. 
.I chaperoned the schools on the night, letting them know what was happening and answering any questions/giving information.

.Went to a meeting where everyone was discussing a timeline schedule for the following year. The schedule included events at the place that will be running throughout 2020.
.I finished creating the spreadsheet I was creating using the feedback from the monitoring forms. 
.Went to the education and participation meeting. in this meeting we discussed what happened at Camden Secondary Schools Dance Festival. There was an unexpected incident on the day of the event and having more staff available was discussed for further events so that there are more people around if unexpected problems do occur. Using the collated monitoring forms I found that there were 147 performers in the show and I gave this information at the meeting.  We also discussed upcoming events such as Youth Dance Platforms, and spoke about who was participating. 
.I created the individual school schedules for the Youth Dance Platform event.

.Created a schedule for Camden Primary Schools Dance Festival. I checked the free space available and fit in workshops for the schools to participate in on the day. I also included chill out time, breaks and holding spaces and fitted these into the schedules.
.I made sure the schedule ran smoothly with enough time to rest and enough workshops and chill time so that the children didn't get bored.
.I then started working on the schools packs and created individual schedules for each school.
