Data breaches and IoT network penetrations have become
almost common in every industry. Most IoT are only trained for reliability with poor securities. With the evolution of Internet is changing and new technologies can be implemented into the industry, can we still believe that IoT can be implemented into the industry? It seems that hackers and other people can misuse IoT to penetrate the security of the industry too.

During Black Hat 2016 which is an event that provide technical consulting for problems related to information security, it is found that 70% of IT experts agree that they are not ready to face the threats related to the IoT as severe consequences could happened if there are cyberattacks to a particular industry/company.

According to a study by Tripwire and Dimensional Research in 2017, it is found that 96% of experts state that they expect attacks on the IoT to rise next year.

This is because in the next years, as IoT devices such gadgets are increasingly turned into smart devices and as manufacturers roll out new products more quickly, little priority is given to security. Almost all devices connected to the Internet and goes towards data collection which is valuable to the industrial sector. And hackers out there can easily penetrate their security to collect important data just by the tip of their fingers.

During Mobile World Congress 2018, a new device that is rapidly emerging in the IoT sector which is drone can affect the security of the industrial sector. This is due to drone's versatile application and real-time data access which could cause data breach to various industrial sectors including agriculture, packaging delivery and even construction sector. The versatility of drones made hackers to manipulate system security while on air.

So the question is, is IoT can be implemented to secure the industrial sector?

References:
https://www.arubanetworks.com/solutions/internet-of-things/

Sentryo (2017). Security of the IIoT: A Critical Challenged for Inductries. Retrieved from
https://www.sentryo.net/security-iiot-critical-challenge-industries/

Srinivasan, C.

As Iot gives lots of benefits towards the Industrial Sectors. It also has it owns cons or key challenges that would prevent the adoption of Iot in Industrial Sectors. This are some list of key challenges that could prevent the adoption of Iot in Industrial Sectors:

Security vulnerabilities

As Iot only works and connected towards each other, the security of the network are not secure as there are no human control or encrypted network that could protect it. This will increase the chances of the network from being hack by hackers. As said by Marius (2018), IoT devices communicate automatically with each other. In the absence of a secure and properly encrypted network, the adoption of IoT could lead to brand new security challenges and vulnerabilities.

The cost of implementing IoT solutions

After that, I also believe that the implementing of Iot solutions towards the Industrial Sector would led to high cost. This is due to many companies would have to use a lot of to invest for the particular product.

Technology Takes Control of Life

As people begin to relied on Iot, this will led them to depend to much on Iot. This will surely cause technology to take control of life as there are not more man workforce needed to do every task given and people that depends too much on it. As stated in Pros and Cons of Internet of Things (IoT) - What You Need to Know (Article), Our lives will be increasingly controlled by technology, and will be dependent on it. The younger generation is already addicted to technology for every little thing.

In conclusion, companies that would like to adopt the usage of Iot in their industry should be more aware of the key challenges of adopting Iot despite it would help to reduce risk and downtime.

Reference
Marius, E.

Yes. It is true and I am agree that when industrial sector implements IoT in their management, it will give many benefits to their productivity and can increase their efficiency. According to Morgan (2018), the CEO of Open Market said that when the machine has become smarter and does not require human to look over the stuff. The machine got problems? No problems, this is because if there is anything, the machine will tell you by using the radio frequency identification tags (RFID).

Other than that, the problem of Overproduction can be solved configuration of the specific requirements or number. They have been programmed to do this and that. In addition, IoT have the ability to monitor entire system, thus, manpower does not have to be there all the time to observe the production of the product. In the implementation of IoT, it bring a lot of advantages and it leads to the more sophisticated work environment.

Reference
Morgan, J.

Hello everyone, so today i have found that there are many ways IoT must improve and solve if they want their industry successful. Some of you have known and some are not.

How exactly IoT must improve to develop the industry?

Security Holes

Everybody knows that security is the key of IoT's issues. According to Deloitte report, the function of more computing power and security features of embedded with new devices of IoT are helping to improve the IoT security situation. Furthermore, the function of new hardware leverages low power is to increase the applications and protocols of traditional cyber security.

Platform problems

Many vendors are now producing the IoT platforms is to make hardware, network and applications more easier than before. Moreover, the hardest part of crafting is building multivendor to complete the IoT implementations. But, the new vendor partnerships lead the ecosystem offer pre-integrated third-party technologies. However, to create turnkey IoT solutions, vendors are taking the issue is with vertical that combine sensors, devices, analytics, and other components.

Expensive, power-hungry networks

IoT gadgets require systems to speak with one another, but traditional WANs are too expensive and powerful. Moreover, many of low cost, low power wide-area networks cannot afford the expend of the connectivity and provide small battery.

Hard to analyze data

IoT gadgets can produce many data. If it's too often, most of the data will not be investigated and unused. Studying machine and vision of computer are mostly use in IoT because it is to analyze the data. The fucntion is too improve the IoT applications.

Latency

To introduce latency, it has to analyze the data in the cloud and it will make it hard to produce useful real time and bad performance in industry, enterprise and smart settings. The produce of analyze data from IoT's platform usually now not working in the cloud but for the edge of network.

Reference :
Paul, F.

Hi everyone, so we have discuss many things regarding our topic which involve the industrial sector. But before we go more to explain this particular topic, I am really enthusiast to give all you a brief explanation what is exactly Internet Of Thing. So, lets explore more. first thing first, IoT refer to a network that can connect to anything with the Internet based on particular protocols. This platform offers information exchange and communication, this is leading to smart management, monitoring, tracing and many more. This IoT concept was coined by a member of the RFID development community in 1999. IoT refer to the general things especially objects that are readable, locatable, reachable. It is the new revolution of the internet. According to Patel (2016), the goals of IoT is to connect anything, anywhere, anyplace and anyone. in the simpler words everything is interconnected.

Reference
Patel, K.

The first one is the interconnectivity that brings mean we are connected to anything including global information and also communication infrastructure. Next, the services that are things-related, for example privacy protection that are require physical things and their associated virtual devices. To provide this, this all things will be change according to the time. Last but not least, the safety of this particular IoT, even if we are to immerse in this kind of technology but we cannot forget about the safety, both of the users and also the recipient of the IoT. We have to take charge in taking care the networks, the data, the devices and almost everything safety. Because nowadays, IoT has no boundaries and we can do anything with it. The most important one is connectivity, have an access to the network. without network, the things is limited. That's all.

References
K Patel, K. and M Patel, S.

Hello, now it is time for me to share what I have found about the use of IoT in the industry. The uses of IoT have contribute to the convenience of the industrial sector to store data and reduce human workforce.

Different industries are harnessing the power of IoT to reduce costs, improve operational processes as well as quality of customer services, but also changing the nature of risk!

Initially, the uses of IoT is implemented to the industrial sector to protect from the risk of data breach or security penetration from the outside. Now the industry are implementing the IoT to counter the hackers and data breach by using the IoT to prevent the risk which act as a second barrier to protect important data.

So which one? Risk or Reward?

I believe it is a reward. Because moving from risk protection to risk prevention makes the IoT more reliable as the security of the industrial sectior. This is because smart technologies data have the potential to dramatically reduce risks where these devices have real-time risk monitoring feature that could help to claim prevention.

So what do you think?

In this 21st century, Internet plays a major role towards the industry. As IoT are being adapt by many other industry, here is another reason why IoT are important to the industrial sector. I would like to add on more reasons why IoT are important to the industrial sector.

Communications

First of all, as stated by Forbes Insights in their survey, "about half of the communications companies represented in the survey, 53%, either have IoT embedded into their processes or have it in key business areas". This shows that the usage or adoption of Iot into communications companies are increasing each and each year. This is because of by using IoT, it slightly would help the companies to learn more about human behavior. So, I strongly believe that IoT helps in communications.

Greater Energy Efficiency

As the Industry used IoT, the data revealed by IoT can deliver interesting insights, such as off-hour consumption, recommendations for optimizing production schedules and other opportunities for savings to the companies or industries. So, this would help the managers to solve the issues regarding energy consumption. As stated in Fathym article, "nearly 77 percentof companies reported obtaining energy consumption data from their monthly utility bills or energy monitoring tools, which both have limited points of data". From this, we surely know that the usage of IoT are very important for the companies.

Higher product quality

As we all know, all companies are focusing on the quality of the product. As using Iot, it would help the companies to enhance the quality of their product such as helping the performance of the employees.

As a conclusion, I would like to agree with Buqhari's opinion regarding the important of Iot to the Industrial Sector. As IoT would helps industries in communications and energy efficiency.

References

How IoT Is Impacting 7 Key Industries Today.

Today I wanted to share about 2 major industries that uses the IoT to reduce risk and even enhance their system to improve productivity.

Vehicles

This industry uses mostly machines and computer systems which could be one of the targeted industry by hackers as machines and computer systems are hackable. To be ready for the risks of data penetration, they apply the uses of IoT devices to enable data connections which allow motor companies to remotely update software and respond to real time mechanical issues which can cause by hackers.

Healthcare

In hospitals there are machines such as MRI scan and CT scan which are computerised machines that could be hackable. Even the hospital data stored in computers or the hospital systems can be hack by other people. So, the healthcare industry uses the implementation of IoT devices which could help to monitor the security of the system and the machines so that there would no error occurs while using the machine.

Truly, the implementation of IoT in the industry makes them more secure.

Is there any industry that you know that have implemented the uses of IoT?

Basically, there two different roles in manufacturing that can play by IoT. It can connect things to produce your product and machines be more good in terms of condition and quality. This is why sensor is the main role even it is in limited way. Furthermore, you can utilize the data that has been collected to make your product be more good. This is because it can gives you benefit to your customer and to develop your business by using that data. Last but not least, it can gives your more profit because a lot of people will asking more about your product.

Reference :

The Role of IoT in Manufacturing. Retrieved from https://www.plex.com/blogs/iot-manufacturing-technology.html

Hello everyone! So alhamdulillah we are now at the end of our online forum. Thank you very much for the co-operations! However, before I end the online forum session, i would like to make conclusions based on our topic.

First of all, so basically the Industrial Sector are becoming more eager to adapt the usage of IoT in their industries. This is because of in this modern days, the usage of IoT are highly required in order to enhance the performance of the industries. As stated by the Gardner report," "The IoT industry is the next wave of internet technologies, and is expected to create hundreds of thousands of well-paying professional jobs," Argawal (2016). From this, we could say that IoT plays a major role in the revolution of the industrial sector.

After that, I would also like to explain that IoT would give lots of benefits for the industrial sector instead of cons. For example, the adoption of IoT in Industrial Sector would give Higher Product Quality for the industry. Then, it also can help to Reduced Downtime, this is because IoT could help to provide safeguards for the machines from any problems such as the failure of the machine. As stated in Fathym article, "Upon the failure of the machine, you’re struggling not just with downtime, but also with the loss of all the ingredients and associated production time. IoT provides safeguards against these types of losses".

Last but not least, however, the industrial sector needs to be more aware before adapting the usage of IoT in their sector. This is because IoT requires lots of expenses. Thus, they need to understand how IoT works. For example, connectivity. IoT connects helps to enable network accessibility and compatibility.

Reference
Rayome, A, D.
