June 1985- Prince Sultan bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, an air-force pilot, was the first Arab astronaut in space. His trip was a seven-day mission to help to put in orbit a satellite for the Arab Satellite Communications Organisation (often called Arabsat).
July 1987 - Mohammad Ahmed Faris, a Syrian, flew to the space station Mir with two Soviet cosmonauts in the program for cooperation in space between Syria and the Soviet Union. He is credited with carrying the first recorded Earth dirt into space, which was a vial carrying soil from Damascus.
September 2019- Hazza Al-Mansouri is an Emirati air force pilot, who was selected on the Soyuz MS-15 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). He spent almost 8 days in space before returning to Earth. Whilst on the ISS, he carried out 15 experiments which had been designed by school children from the UAE. He also carried out Earth observations and filmed the first tour of the ISS in Arabic.
April 2021 - 28-year-old mechanical engineer Nora Al Matrooshi is the first Arab woman to train as an astronaut with Nasa.
