It happened that the king had a much beloved pet goose, which was now old and grey. As time passed, the goose also became so aged and weak that it was soon unable to fly. As a result, the king was very upset, for he loved the goose very much. Hearing of Kevin's sanctity and power, the pagan king sent for him, and asked that he make the beloved goose young. Kevin asked for a payment of whatever land the goose would fly over. As the goose could no longer take flight, O'Toole agreed. When Kevin touched the bird, it grew young, and flew over the entire valley of Glendalough, and on that site the monastery was established.

Maddy & Kate
Feast day: February 6th

Born November 8 1897 in New York City Dorothy Day worked for causes such as pacifism and women suffrage. Went to University of Illinois. Worked as a journalist and an activist. She was pregnant but aborted. Wrote a novel published in 1924. She didn’t want to be a saint. Faithful to the Gospel and Church, immersed in the social issues of the day with the aim of transforming both individuals and society. Her spirit fosters nonviolence, personal responsibility of all people to the poorest ones among us and fidelity to community and to God. The vision of Dorothy Day lives on in The Catholic Worker newspaper that has been continually published since 1933. Dorothy was a journalist all her adult life, and she lived through and commented on the central events of the twentieth century: wars, economic depression, class struggle, the nuclear threat, and the civil rights movement. The Catholic Worker and her prodigious writings always focus the light of the Gospel on our conscience as we struggle with these issues. She wrote to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable. To help the poor and protest for what she believed in. She supported the civil rights movement. For 50 years Dorothy lived with the poor, conducted conferences and published a newspaper, all dependent on donations; this showing commitment and courage. She went through the great depression, started her own charity and dedicated her life fighting for justice for the homeless in New York City. She was arrested and sent to a work house where they were treated poorly and went on a hunger strike. Then they were released by the US president and when she got to she trained to be a nurse. She was an avid peacemaker and prolific author. Dorothy Day is a role model because she stood up for what she believed in and she influenced others to follow n her footsteps for those in need.

commonly known as Saint Louis, was King of France from 1226 until his death. Louis was crowned in Reims at the age of 12, following the death of his father Louis VIII the Lion, although his mother, Blanche of Castile, ruled the kingdom until he reached maturity. During Louis's childhood, Blanche dealt with the opposition of rebellious vassals and put an end to the Albigensian crusade which had started 20 years earlier.

As an adult, Louis IX faced recurring conflicts with some of the most powerful nobles, such as Hugh X of Lusignan and Peter of Dreux. Simultaneously, Henry III of England tried to restore his continental possessions, but was defeated at the battle of Taillebourg. His reign saw the annexation of several provinces, notably Normandy, Maine and Provence.

Louis was born on 25 April 1214 at Poissy, near Paris, the son of Prince Louis the Lion and Princess Blanche, and baptised in La Collégiale Notre-Dame church. His grandfather on his father's side was Philip II, king of France; while his grandfather on his mother's side was Alfonso VIII, king ofCastile. Tutors of Blanche's choosing taught him most of what a king must know—Latin, public speaking, writing, military arts, and government.[2] He was 9 years old when his grandfather Philip II died and his father ascended as Louis VIII.

#Tildzwag
