The kids have been exposed to it since they were in Kindergarten and get so board with it come second and third grade. With TA cuts, its impossible to implement it with fidelity. and the F&P program is so lacking. I feel like phonics is the key to reading fluently and being able to comprehend!

How can I create center phonics activities for students to work on in rotations when I do not have a TA to run a Fundations group?

In 3rd grade we have a SWARM group for Fundations, and we do Fundations for about 35 minutes 3 days a week. I feel like my students are bored and its just the same thing over and over. Routine is good, but I feel like this is the same thing they have been doing since Kindergarten, so they are just bored. We need more engaging phonics programs.

I need material to supplement the word work/ phonics work.

Currently: F&P in small groups/ flex groups and Fundations (3-4 days a week for 25-30min)

Problem: I spent 2-3 days on one book/ lesson in F&P and you cannot really do the phonics lesson more than once without changing it up (which is only really a 10 minute lesson). I have found that many students are in different stages on their phonics/ decoding/ fluency skills, so Fundations doesn't always help them. Plus, Fundations is designed to be more of a small group program, and without a TA , it makes it hard to implement this in a small group.

I have the same issues as everyone else with Fundations and F&P. F&P doesn't have much to it and isn't deep enough. Fundations gets really boring to students about half way through the year. I feel like I have started to add sight words to my phonics instruction, but the problem is we aren't really supposed to be teaching the kids to sound out sight words, however, I have started adding it to my phonics portion because it is important. I need activities that change up the current instruction, but also support sight words. Help?

I like that Fundations is systematic. I dislike that it is the same thing over and over and the students get bored once they get half way through the first grade. I like the lessons in F&P better because I feel like its less "scripted" but at the same time there is so much lacking from it. I like that substitutes and TAs can follow these manuals with little support or extra instruction, but again, I feel like there is so so much lacking and that the instruction lacks meaningful experiences for students.
