1.	Do you think the aforementioned internships or mentorship programme could really help bridge the gap between students’ expectations and realities in the workplace? Apart from the support from companies and schools, how should students better prepare themselves for career?
2.	There have been a lot of comments and criticism saying that the young generations or the “millennium” are far less competitive and welcomed in job markets. What do you think are the main reasons for such criticism? What are the qualities they lack? What should they do in order to convince their future employers that they are capable and suitable?

Yes, I think the aforementioned programmes can help bridge students the gap between their expectations to their future and their actual career path. According to the article, it states that a main reason of low employment rate in employers' perspective , is that they are unable to find the 'right person', owing to the situation of most interviewees being unable to suit in the job requirements. More often than not, it is caused by the inaccessible information of what skills are in demand and what qualifications are beneficial for competing for a job. In fact, by joining the programmes mentioned beforehand , a bridge to students future path can be built. As students have a more detailed understanding about what they should pursue which can help increase their competitiveness . As a result, the programmes can ease the problem of unemployment when employers are able to find the 'right person'.
To better prepare for their future career, students can also learn from others experience instead of experiencing themselves.

I think that the possible reasons are that parents nowadays are overprotective that they always give what their teens want, this lead to the phenomenon that Hong Kong teens nowadays are easy to lose temper and are impolite. The qualities they lack is being responsible. As the teens are used to be taken care of by their parents, they wouldn’t shoulder their own responsibilities. Even when they make a mistake, they wouldn’t admit and just let the problems go on. I think that they should change these bad habits and use actions to show the employers that they are capable of managing tasks with a good manner and attitude.

I think providing the mentorship programme can help prepare the students for their career path. As it is mentioned in the article, young adults are lack of role model to learn from, so they may not understand what qualities and skills they need to acquire for certain jobs. By pairing the students up with the experienced workers from different various industries ,they can know more about their 'dream jobs'. Other than participating in such mentorship programme, students can also apply for internships. Having first hand experience is far authentic and better than simply listening to the mentors' experiences. Students can figure out if their expectations are similar to the reality. Sometimes what they expect can be totally different from what the reality. This can prepare them for their future career and make sure hat they are really capable and like their jobs.

I agree that internships and mentorships are useful. First, internships provide an experience for students. For example, through ‘job shadowing’, students can observe and learn about how a workplace is. However, learning about the qualities needed for working is not the most important, in fact, understanding the nature of the work you are interested in is valuable. Secondly, mentorships are also helpful to a student’s future development. As mentors have experience working in society, their opinion may be valuable to students who have yet to understand the realities of work.

I think that the main reasons leading to this criticism are that the teenages nowdays are being spoiled by their parents. Parents tend to be overprotective to their children, contributing to the teens not being able to take care of thenselves indepently. Also, as they are often given what they desire immediately by parents. They do not know how to get what they want by their own effort. They will always rely on others to help them making them not responsible. Furthermore, they may not be able to do their work independently as they often rely on their parents. With the advanced technology, teens may lack interpersonal skills as they often interact with one another in the virtual world but not face to face communication. In order to convince their employers they are capable, they should definitely change their behaviour and be well prepared before work. They should also tackle tasks with positive attitudes

I think the main reason is that adolescents are pampered by their parents so they are unable to be independent which contributes to the lack of different qualities required. For example, they tend to place reliance upon the others while dealing with problems. If puzzles aren't solved, some of them often find faults with the others and become enraged. Hence, they are said to be irresponsible. What is more, being impatient often gives rise to a lack of clear mind which weakens their critical thinking ability.
Students should take the initiative to engage in internships and work-attachment placements, etc. to increase their exposure to real work in a wide variety of industries in order to observe the qualities needed to succeed at work. As students are facing cut-throat competition for jobs nowadays, they should be well prepared before work. Most importantly, students should have a growth mindset.

Yes, I think that such mentorship or internship programmes can improve students’ understanding of their future career. As mentioned in the article, the younger generation lack knowledge about the workplace, and often thinks that if they did not get a job with decent income, they could not progress. These misconceptions lead to the decline of applicants in most industries and the increase of unemployment rate. However, through the programmes mentioned, students can have a first-hand experience of working. This helps them understand what skills are most in demand in the industry and what qualities are needed for the job. Thus, they can see whether they are interested in the field and be well-prepared before they join the workforce. Besides help from schools and companies, students can also explore on their own. For instance, they can read information regarding the jobs that they are interested in on the Internet and see how people think about the job. They can also take personality tests to see which career path suits them most in order to avoid unenjoyable working experience. It is also good for students to search for famous figures working in relevant sectors because role models could help students learn the ways to acquire the skills essential for success.
