After the program, fellows are supposed to propose to leadership, or lead themselves, institution-level changes such as new or improved policies, processes, electronic systems, staff professional development, and addition of new functional units. For example some of our alumni have led new policies for supporting postdoctoral scholars, or intellectual property management. Some have implemented new electronic systems to improve proposal and research project management workflows and reporting. Some have created new functional units such as establishing a technology transfer office. The goal is for these institutions to be more productive research universities in terms of winning and managing sponsored research projects according to funders' requirements.

All UASP alumni (who are university faculty and administrators) are expected to disseminate what they have learned about research management through the program to their colleagues and/or students at their university. The UASP fellowship is also designed to connect alumni to a community of practice where they can continue learning alongside colleagues in their field. This starts with embedding peer engagement in the program so they are connected to each other. We also have an alumni dissemination event to bring people back together, sometimes convening people from multiple cohorts to meet/network. We will launch a formal alumni committee this cycle. We will also provide funds exclusively for alumni membership in research management professional associations, the aim of which is for people to stay connected to a peer group even after the fellowship program life cycle.
