My first month of internship at the Bambino Gesù children's hospital began in February. I worked my shifts in the Nephrology and Dialysis department together with three other university mates. From the beginning I thought I would be anxious and instead as soon as I started I realised that I was just very excited to be able to compare myself with nurses and doctors. The first week I worked shifts in Dialysis and being a ward where children have to have specific treatments using a machine, I wasn't very busy in fact I was almost bored. But later I went to Nephrology and from there I understood how important and demanding this profession can be. Luckily I had very good and understanding tutors who were able to put me at ease and explain many procedures to me. At the end of the internship I was very tired but also satisfied with what I had learned. What I enjoyed the most was being able to take care of the children and comfort the families. Obviously there have been unpleasant episodes, in fact one of the patients I was following died, but this is still part of the work I want to do in the future. Despite this, I hope to learn a lot again when I change departments.

Write 100-150 words.

Choosing to go to work between wards and hospital rooms, I think it will be an endless adventure for me. What drives me to become a nurse is taking care of people, their weaknesses and frailties; this is a job that requires selfless devotion and a great respect for life. It is said that assistance is an art, I think exactly like that. I decided that I would like to do this job when I was little because I already understood at that time that I wanted to take care of people and be close to them. This decision of mine was also influenced by my grandfather who was a nurse. In particular, I was struck by his empathy and his strength in listening; thanks to him I understood how important it is to deal delicately with any situation, not only from the point of view of the disease but also in the face of any form of discomfort and difficulty.
