As communism rose, accusations throughout the United States would cause many individual's lives to change. Innocent people were blatantly accused of being communist spies, trying to sabotage the United States government. These people would lose their jobs and friends, and even their family members would no longer accept them. Joseph McCarthy was one of the greatest manipulators, accusing 81 innocent Americans of being Communists. The worst part is, everyone believed him.

The USSR cut off all ground access to the city of Berlin, and their territory surrounded the city. They believed this would leave the other countries with no option but to abandon. This was challenged by the other countries, as they airlifted supplies and people in and out of Berlin. The airlift lasted from June 1948 to September 1949.

The Soviet Union was the first to launch a satellite into space, which was perceived as a threat by the United States Government. Both sides had back-to-back battles, both winning and losing. The United States was the first to put humans on another planet. This was a turning point in human history, as well as the superiority of the countries.

The Potsdam Conference was to determine what happened with the land in Germany and Austria. It was ultimately decided that it was to be split into four zones controlled by America, France, British, and the USSR. Berlin and Vienna would also be individually split into four sections, to be controlled by them as well. Both Germany and Austria were also demilitarised and disarmed. The Potsdam Conference was also a crucial point in nuclear war weapons because it is when the United States informed the USSR that they had these weapons.

North Korea believed that the entire Korean peninsula was better being a whole, and communist. The war started on the 25th of June, 1950, and ended on July 27th, 1953. There was ultimately no clear winner of this war, as neither country accomplished their goals.

The CIA was a crucial part of the Cold War, and they kept eyes on decisions made worldwide. They ensured communism would not spread to the United States, as well as guided militaries to protect and support the United States and their government. Although it was controversial at the time, many other countries had spies. The soviet spies Harry Gold, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, David Greenglass, and Klaus Fuchs found and shared the plans for the atomic bomb, which was how the USSR knew of the bomb at the Potsdam Conference.
