With the telescope, Galileo made astronomical observations claiming in his published work that there was sunspots on the sun, he discovered Jupiter's four "Galilean" moons, and he came forward to support the heliocentric model. Because of this he was jailed.
Video:

Lippershey claimed his telescope zoomed in to objects up to three times.
Shortly after hearing about Lippershey's invention, Galileo created his telescope in 1609 and improved it by making its magnification reach up to 20 times.
In 1611, Johannes Kepler also made his improvements to the telescope when he created the Keplerian telescope, a refracting telescope.
In 1668 Isaac Newton created the first reflecting telescope, using a series of mirrors.
In 1729 Chester Hall solved the issue about color distortion in refracting telescopes.
In 1789 the first giant refracting telescope was built in the UK by William Herschel.
In 1937 the first radio telescope was built.
IN 1990 both NASA and ESA built and launched into space for the first time the Hubble space telescope.
In may 2020 NASA and ESA have scheduled to launch into space a newly developed telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope to replace the aging Hubble Space Telescope.
Article:
