This event marked the beginning of the American Revolution. British troops attempted to seize weapon stores and arrest rebellious leaders, leading to conflict with colonial militias. This was the triggering event of the American revolution as tensions that had built between colonists and the British erupted violently. This persuaded colonists to take up arms against the British and was seen as a sign that relationships with the British could not be restored peacefully. The British were forced retreated to Boston while suffering heavy casualties.

Battles of Saratoga (September and October 1777)

This was a turning point of the American Revolution. The American forces defeated the British army, which greatly raised morale and showed that rebellion still had hope for success. These two battles took place near Saratoga, New York, when the British General in charge failed to cut off New England. This victory was also crucial to the American forces as it persuaded France to militarily and financially support the colonial forces. It was also a humiliation for the British.

Yorktown (Sept 28-Oct 19)

The battle of Yorktown was a decisive battle in favor of the American forces. The surrender of British General Charles Cornwallis' army to the American forces led by General George Washington as well as the French Navy signified the end of the American Revolution as Yorktown was the last major battle between the British and American forces. This victory also led to peace talks and negotiations, culminating in the Treaty of Paris.

Louisiana territory

Missouri Compromise Line
