I think many people will go into teaching secondary education for the subject area. They "love" Spanish, or they "love" writing, or reading, etc., however, I think you stay in teaching because of the kids. If that isn't your why, I feel someone might need to reconsider their choice to continue teaching students.

I want my students, athletes and teachers to be able to say that there was this person at MMS that helped them be better at something. I do not expect them to think I am something special, because I am not. I am as flawed as a boat made out of soap. However, I want to be someone that listens to them without judgement and someone that doesn't make them feel inadequate. Tech (and Track) are two things that people can have a hard time working on and feeling good at. There's "never time", and it takes a lot of work to be a teacher, so never allow those words out your mouth as a teacher. NO ONE is a "tech person", just like NO ONE is a good runner by birth. Both take effort and goal setting. Although I am an expert in those fields, that's not the image I want people to see of me. I want them to see me as the encourager in that process, the supporter, and the high-fiver.

What I strive for is for someone to feel that I made an impact on them in a positive way.

For the last 8 years, I have been the Instructional Technology Specialist at the middle school level. In my position, I am in charge of the 1:1 computer setup at my school: bills, care, learning how to use it, working with teachers on how to use it effectively, moving towards 21st century learning and away from what we did in the past that didn't provide us with the results we wanted. I can only hope that what we do with them helps the students and teachers down the line.

I have coached 2 high school girls' track teams (in high school they separate the teams by the sexes) and in my current position I am the head co-head coach of the combined (boys and girls) middle school track team. I love it and I look forward to it all year long. This would have been my 19th year coaching track, however, sadly, we didn't get to start the season because of the remote learning due to the virus. Stupid virus. I missed the interactions, the accomplishments and the extended family time that a team provides, but I'd rather no one ended up sick or worse.

I think I am probably pretty unique in the fact that I can't learn enough about anything I hear. I am always looking things up, researching items and putting together the pieces to form opinions on things. In my professional work, as well as in my personal life, I haven't really noticed other people like that. That can make me feel like an odd ball sometimes, but sometimes it makes me the person people come to, to ask questions and advice.

I love cars, especially American muscle cars. Because my father was a United Auto Worker for over 30 years, I could care less about anything that wasn't made from the big 3 automakers. In fact, I couldn't even park it in my family's drive way. Other dads and sons played catch in the yard, my dad and I tinkered with ways to increase horsepower and looked at engine specs, ratings, and memorized the minutia. Since he raced cars in the 1960s, my dream car has developed into any Ford muscle car from the 1967 through 1973 (would also take a GTO). Last year in March, I ordered my first new car, which was a life-long dream of mine. Of course, it is way too fast for my wife's liking with lots of gadgets and twin turbos, but it was exactly what I wanted to sit in with my family or drive on my own like I stole it after a stressful day at work.
