Support and Services

Our Domestic and Family Violence Support Program helps those experiencing violence and coercion to seek safety for themselves and their animal companions. Our program offers access to safe crisis accommodation for companion animals, allowing clients to find a refuge for themselves before being reunited with their pet.

Services of our Domestic Violence program include:

- Temporary foster accommodation and/or emergency pet boarding

- Financial assistance for veterinary treatment

- Financial assistance with impound fees

- Financial assistance with transport fees

This is a free service - based in Summer Hill

The Survivor Hub hosts in-person and online peer support groups, called ‘MeetUps’. At MeetUps, survivors can connect with each other to ask questions, express concerns, vent, learn and heal.

Most importantly, MeetUps are safe spaces and exist to assure survivors that they aren’t alone and offer a sense of community through the highs and lows of their healing journeys. Our MeetUps show survivors that they can and will get through it, because their peers have too.

You can chat to a lawyer and get advice on remaining in Australia, and what next steps you can take.

LGBTIQ+  Liaison Officers can support you by providing discrete, confidential, and non-judgemental advice, assistance or referral for all police related matters.

A Twenty10 worker can help you to contact a police station if you need to make a report, and request an LGBTQIA+ officer.

To contact an LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officer, call or attend your local police station and ask to speak with one.

If a LGBTI+ Liaison Officer is unavailable, please do not wait to report crime, report it immediately to your local police and a request of follow up support or referral from a LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officer can be made.

This website has information about family violence provisions for visa holders, and how the department can assist you.

The specialist support program provides wrap-around support to empower individuals to make the best possible choices for themselves.  

This includes working with individuals to establish immediate safety, supporting holistic wellbeing and making connections to financial, legal and health providers, building pathways to independence through employment and education and working alongside families to re-establish connection and create safer home environments.

To be eligible for support through the Leaving Violence Program, 
you must meet all of the below eligibility criteria:

• be a victim-survivor experiencing Intimate Partner Violence;

• have left or have a plan to leave a violent Intimate Partner Relationship;

• have changed, or have been planning to change, how or where you live in the past 12 weeks because of the violence. This can, for example, be that you:

  • have left your shared home, or

  • partner has left or been made to leave your shared home and you have stayed in the home, or

  • have a plan or want help to make a plan, to leave a partner who uses violence and change your living arrangement;

• be 18 years or older;

• reside in Australia and have a current address; 
  (at the time of application as an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or temporary visa holder);

• be experiencing financial stress;

• have not been supported through the Leaving Violence Program, Escaping Violence Payment (EVP) trial, or the Temporary Visa Holders Experiencing Violence Pilot in the last 12 months.
