This resource shows all of the First People's on a map of North America. I love this resource because it comes with a worksheet and it connects with a large map that our school has at the moment that students are learning about. The map is half of our gym in size and is such an amazing learning tool. This website connects to that, I will most likely use it after we look at the large map with our Indigenous Educator.

Big Idea: Canada is made up of many diverse regions and communities.

Content: Diverse characteristics of communities and cultures in Canada and around the world, including at least one Canadian First Peoples community and Culture.

Objectives: This collection is intended to be used in a classroom with the support of the Teacher-Librarian, or in the LLC with a class and the Teacher-Librarian. It is an introduction to Indigenous Peoples and culture in Canada. After introducing First Peoples and using these resources, we would choose one group of First Peoples to study further. Orange Shirt day is a great jumping off point to start this discussion and it is at the beginning of the school year. Having the First Peoples Principles of Learning posted in the classroom all year is also something I would do as a classroom teacher and as a Teacher-Librarian.
