Summary of the current Innovation The Remede Sleep System

The device was approved by the FDA in 2017 and is comprised of a small battery pack that is surgically placed within the chest. The pack contains wires that travel down blood vessels near the heart in order to engage the phrenic nerve which stimulates breathing. Mechanical stimulation of the phrenic nerve stabilizes breathing patterns in patients with central sleep apnoea and restores normal patterns of respiration. This invention was designed to allow patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea restore normal sleeping patterns. Remede is an implantable device that sends impulses down nerves which stimulate breathing by engaging the diaphragm.
