The pack contains wires that travel down blood vessels near the heart in order to engage the phrenic nerve which stimulates breathing. Mechanical stimulation of the phrenic nerve stabilizes breathing patterns in patients with central sleep apnoea and restores normal patterns of respiration. This invention was designed to allow patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea restore normal sleeping patterns.
