Little Women was one of the first classic novels I read and truly enjoyed. I love watching shows and movies that follow characters in their day to day life, and Little Women has an amazing way of making small, seemingly insignificant or mundane moments beautiful, and weaving them together to tell a story. This was also one of my grandmother’s favorite books, and one of the first full-length English language novels she read growing up in India. I think that speaks to the universality of the story, and how coming of age, falling in love, and mourning loss are emotions that Alcott writes about to relate to everyone.

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse is hands down my favorite animated film of all time, and one of my favorite movies of all time. Although many people underestimate animated films, their ability to tell deep and emotional stories, weaving in fantastical elements and truly stunning visuals is unparalleled. I get chills every time I watch the scene of Miles leaping off the building for the first time, or hear the perfect soundtrack and blending of art styles. Whenever I’m feeling down or uninspired, this is the first movie I reach for. It feels like a warm embrace, or someone reassuring me that no matter what, things will be OK.

I undoubtedly attribute my obsession with rap music to Kendrick Lamar, especially this album. The lyrics are truly a masterpiece, but the album remains something I can casually listen to over and over again. I remember writing an argumentative essay defending contemporary music in 8th grade, and I used this album as my largest piece of evidence, proving that the craft of songwriting and lyricism is nowhere near dead. That essay was my favorite writing assignment I’ve ever completed, and after reading article after article breaking down the lyrics, I’ll happily rant to anyone about this album’s genius.

I absolutely loved this book, and felt so seen by its portrayal of what it means to not only be first generation American, but also biracial, balancing different religions, cultures, and family backgrounds. I also enjoyed the fact that it was a graphic novel, and how it made the story more personal through illustrations, photographs, and other visual elements.
