The first organization I decided to research is the Georgia Child Care Association (georgiachildcare.org). This organization is located in Sandy Springs, GA. The mission of the members of this organization is to enhance, support, and promote quality in the licensed early learning child care industry (georgiachildcare.org). Educators can become a member of the GCCA organization by subscribing and paying a membership fee. The fee ranges from $35-$439, depending on how basic or exclusive you want your membership to be. The higher the fee, the better the perks, of course. Being a member of this organization would benefit me in my professional career by helping me find new ways to improve as an educator. For example, this program can enlighten me on new teaching styles and resources so I can give young children the best quality education possible.
The second organization I chose to review is the National Association for the Educators of Young Children. This organization is based in Washington D.C and was founded by Patty Smith Hill in the 1920s (Wikipedia). The NAEYC’s mission is to improve educational opportunities for all young children (naeyc.org). Their website displays featured members sharing their stories. By reading some of them, I can tell members of this program are committed to bettering the standard of education for young students. Prices to become a member of this program range from $30-$150. By joining this program, I feel like I can connect with others who share my passion (naeyc.org), and my voice will be heard.
The third organization I chose to look into is the Council for Exceptional Children. This year is CEC’s 100th anniversary. The goal of this organization is to improve, through excellence and advocacy, the education and quality of life for children and youth with exceptionalities and/or special needs (Georgia.exceptionalchildren.org). Students, new educators, professionals, retired professionals, and parents can all be members of this program. Membership prices range from $40-185. Group memberships are available as well. This program can help me learn how to work with children with different educational needs. I can also learn from more experienced educators.
Part 2:
Qualities of Early Childhood Professionals:
Patience- When working with children, I feel like being patient is at the upmost importance. Children can be a lot most times, and a little patience can go a long way. When things get chaotic, as educators we should calm and understanding to set an example for young children.
Nurturing- Being nurturing as a teacher is a quality characteristic. When children are at school they look to teachers to provide that feeling of positive self-worth and safety. Showing that you care can help young children feel more comfortable while they are away from home.
Respect- We all know that in life you show respect to get respect. Being respectful to all students regardless of their age or background teaches them to show respect for others.
Good Communication Skills- Educators should know how to speak well and how to listen.
Mature- Dealing with younger kids can be exciting, but educators must know how to discern work and play in order to properly handle situations.
