I think there is a difference between lying about our history and just teaching lessons appropriately to students based on their grade level (for example, you may not give all the details about slavery to young students). When thinking about this, where is the line? When and how should students start learning about sensitive topics?

We had a lot of white students that picked not white people, which is fine, but what is not fine is that a lot of those kids did makeup that darkened their complexion so they would look like there person. No body said anything for a long time because "it's just kids dressing up."

Thomas Jefferson not only kept slaves but had children with one of them - Sally Hemings), with my experience in school, I was taught that he was a great man. However, I didn't learn that he kept slaves until last year (and it wasn't even school that taught me). Facts like this ostracize students of color, while there were great historical figures in our past who were oppressed and are never taught about, yet we are glorifying people who did horrible things.
