(Strong Words) -anger shadowing his face
This phrase is pretty powerful because it really describes the emotion that the character is feeling. It creates an emotion in the reader when they read and they can really visualize what is happening. When I read this phrase I think about the characters face being super red and steam coming out of his ears. I can imagine that he was talking to somebody and they said something and the anger just came like a wave onto him. The anger was just there and it was visible to everyone around them.

"It was a question that still haunted her, maybe even more so now that her children were adults. What kind of person would Jordan have been? Would he have a family now? How different would her own life be? Her ex-husband, Stan's? Justine's? Even James's? They'd all been profoundly affected by Jordan's death. "I can hardly imagine it," he murmured. "A mother never forgets," she said simply." It must be really hard to wonder and try to lay out someone's life when they only died at the age of 13. I would imagine that there would be a lot of late nights just laying in bed trying to imagine how the whole family's life would be different if that child hadn't drowned that day and if they had gotten paralyzed. You know how they say "Out of sight, out of mind" but not in this case you can never forget that day.

"It took several minutes to sort through the items Katie had unpacked. By the time Coco had finished, the entire contents of Katie's closet were scattered across the top of the bed. They finally decided on a yellow sleeveless dress with a white sweater in case the air-conditioning was in high. It complemented Katie's coloring and gave her a look of understated sophistication." I can relate to a time that I was trying to map out the perfect outfit and I tore apart my closet and had everything out. It really feels good when you finally find the one outfit that you think will match the occasion perfectly.

"For all the care---the hair, the nails, and the new outfit--that had gone into preparing for this dinner date, I now had to force myself to finish getting ready. I had no idea how I'd manage to get through this evening. Gina's text got me moving. I changed clothes and filled my head with self-talk, promising that I'd shuffle through the emotions, doubts, fears, and hopes of Bob's news later." It sounds like she was really not feeling motivated to go out on the date. She wanted time to herself to just think about the news that was just delivered to her.

I'd spoiled this dog and had no one to blame but myself. As soon as I got his leash, Rover did a happy dance and hurried to the door, looking over his shoulder as if to say it was about time." I think that Rover is super anxious to go outside and he wants to go and see Mark who moved away. Rover doesn't understand that he's gone and not coming back.

I love looking at the skeins of yarn in all their colors and feeling the different textures. I love my knitting classes and the friends I've made here." The word that I was trying to figure out was skein because I wasn't sure what that meant. I looked at the sentences around it and I think that it means a bunch of yarn, like the balls that they come in. I looked up the actual meaning and it means A length of yarn wound on a reel, can also be thread.

This had been my worry, as well, although I couldn't verbalize it, even to myself." I understand how Lydia is feeling because my grandmother has dementia and it is a really devastating disease. It's hard knowing that all of the good memories you had together are only going to be remembered by you. Some days it's worst than others and it can be hard. I can connect with Lydia because dementia and Alzheimer's are truly really alike.

They had absolutely nothing in common. The three of them sat stiffly at the table in the back of the store, not exchanging a word." I would think that it would benefit everyone in the group to have a different background and have different things in common because then you could all talk about your life and have everybody listen and then they can learn some new things about the people around them while knitting. I think that it would be cool to have a big store with tables and cool chairs and have a huge inventory of craft supplies where people could just come and sit down and make something. They could relax and they could have birthday parties or get together with friends while creating a masterpiece.

"For the first time in years, my sister and I had something in common--fear. And for the first time ever, I was the one who had the greater knowledge...and the authority of personal experience." It must be really hard to be able to say that the only time in many years you can bound over fear. It also must be tough to say that you are the one with the experience and greater knowledge. Always living in someone's shadow could be tough to do every single day. It can't be fun to know that your sister is always going to know more or know more about the topic than you are.

It'd been so long since anyone had touched her with so much affection that she found herself close to tears." The feeling that I felt when I read this sentence was surprise. Just a chapter ago, Jacqueline was really sort of hateful towards Tammie Lee, but now she's feeling bad for her. In books and in life, it's easy to have your feelings change towards a person, but normally not like the snap of your fingers. If it was that long since Jacqueline had gotten a hug with so much love then she hasn't been very open to people or hugs.
