Then, they give oxygen back for us in "exchange". Just think about it. How are we going to be here if there's no more oxygen? Not only animals need it, we also do. Without oxygen, we would all disappear.

   By absorbing CO2, the rainforests help to reduce the impacts of global warming. They also are the only home to about 50% of the species of plants and wild animals on Earth. Numerous of them are endangered and rainforest is the only place they can survive in.

Rainforests help prolong the water cycle by producing tremendous amounts of rainfall each year. The water then makes it way around the world and helps balance the precipitation rate. Since the rate of deforestation is increasing, Earth's water cycle is also being affected. That's one of the reasons for severe droughts around the world recently.

Lapacho is a great example. Lapachol and beta lapachone, two bioactive components in lapacho, have been found to combating cancers, particularly leukemia, and reducing tumors. It's used as a treatment for infections, fevers, syphilis and malaria, too. Clearing the Amazon rainforest, Lapacho's only home, also means killing the hope for people with cancer.
