The significance of the different colored bandanas is to show how she has to put all of her trust into that person to determine her ability to have an opportunity of a better life. The daughter was supposed to be on the lookout for a coyote with a yellow bandana because he was from her region and could help her get to where she needs to be.

The other characters in these poems would be the daughters married cousins, and the woman studying the village. The other characters help paint a picture of how the daughter is leaving due to no opportunities left for her and how the poor mother struggles.

At the beginning of the first poem, it's through the eyes and perspective of the daughter, while in the second poem, is though the mother's perspective. In the first poem, it gives us a sense that the daughter was trained, because she described how quick on her feet she is. It's like if it were a skill of hers. In the second poem, the mother feels worried about her daughter leaving. She acknowledges why her daughter runs.

The significance of these narratives is to illustrate how different their perspectives are. In the daughters narrative her hypothetical scenario helps us understand how important her and her family's pride and honor is to her. In the mother's narrative her experience with her daughter leaving and the woman studying the village helps us understand that she cares enough to let go of her daughter since she can't provide her with a better life considering she can barely provide for her own.

I think the mother's perspective comes after the daughter's, because it describes how the mother feels worried about her daughter leaving. If it started off with the mother's perspective, us readers would feel confused on why the mother is so worried about letting go of her daughter. We wouldn't know until the next poem what's going on with the daughter, therefore it wouldn't transition as well.

Garcia is trying to say it is opportunities need to be sought or else it will someone else's. Emigrating has crossed the minds of many families, most emigrate to find more opportunities for their families and have a better life.
And yes the journey will be rough, but you're always going to face obstacles on any journey, but you have to remain positive or things won't come out in your favor.

Garcia presents her message by the way people communicate. For example, she talks about immigration and emigration and in a way, shares awareness of what're the purposes of someone emigrating and the risks that come with it.
