I can relate to Orvil because of how he tries new things that add to his native identity. I would say that I invent new things to my identity by trying new things like foods from different cultures. Also inventing my identity by making my own choices and not letting other people chose or effect my choice. In total me and Orvil have common ground when inventing our identity's.

Orvil trying to connect with native identity invents his own ways of showing he is native american. In the quote ""man. Thats groot," Orvil says."Pffft," Luther says. " quit trying to talk Indian".(230) it shows that to show that he is native american he is trying to talk like a native american something he hasn't done before. Also in this quote "Orvil stands Infront of Opal's bedroom mirror with his regalia on all wrong" (118) it shows us the reader that he is trying on regalia since he as never wore them before it looks all wrong and shows us it is something new is he trying.

We can see that Edwin want's to figure out who he is. IN the first quote "After getting permission from my mom, I personal messaged ten different Harvey's from her her profile"(69) we can see that he took time to figure out who his dad is. In the second quote "What tribe are we/you" (71) we can also see that after he contacted his dad he wanted to figure out his background of his other half being native american. We can see that both these actions shows us the readers that Edwin is trying to reclaim his identity.

In this quote "He immerses himself in his job. he likes to have something to do, to feel useful, even if that work, that job, is currently in maintenance"(81) we can see that working with the Native group he maintains his native identity even if he is just a janitor. Also in this second quote "He reads history books, biographies, books, about the prison system. Books about baseball, football, and California Native History"(86) we can see that he is reading about his own Native identity. With both of these examples of maintaining Native identity we can see that he is holding on to his Native culture.
