The Discovery

Hi, I am Walter I’m 23 and I live in Philadelphia. It is a chaotic area, but it hasn’t been like this, it was a joyful area. It all changed when someone got sick. It has been a boarded-up, robbery, city. I thought I was safe from the sickness but a thief got me sick and now I have it.

When there disaster started everyone was scared and worried. The thief entered through the loose tile on the roof. He only wanted food which I needed so we fought for it. I screamed “Get out of my house” He just said “Where’s the food” I was able to defend myself and beat the uptake thief but he left a big hole in my roof. I tried to fix it but it kept on falling apart. After that, I woke up and threw up a lot but thought nothing of it.

The sickness spread throughout the city, causing stores to close. Some left the city and felt abandoned with no one in sight. The city was in ruins, it felt like the city would be gone soon. Buildings collapsed as no workers continued to work on the building. I could not stop thinking about how the city will turn out.

As time went past I felt worse and worse, I felt as if my back had 100 pounds on it. My head hurt as if I had a bullet going straight through it. My eyes were bloodshot, and my whole body was numb but in pain. I started to vomit black, and that is when I realized something was wrong with me. The next thing I know I am now a yellow-bodied man.

I went to one doctor then to another and another. The last doctor told me “ You will be fine it will go away tomorrow”. I trusted him until it got worse, that is when I went to a hospital. They had no cure for the sickness. They let me write a letter to my mom but everything was closed, even the post office.

I didn’t feel good even though it went away a little. Soon the hospital let me out with no word so I thought I was going to die. My life felt so short when getting the sickness but I still wanted to do something which was seeing my mom. The hospital took me back in before I could leave. They tested me and figured out I had mosquito bites and that is what caused it, but I survived the sickness. I decided to call it yellow fever, and when they let me go I went to my mom's house in an abandoned carriage on the side of the road with horses still strapped on with yellow fever.

“Cough, Cough” , as David woke up abruptly. “Where am I, and what happened? David groaned. David looks around but silence is what he is greeted with. He looked outside of his creepy window and Saw a girl struggling to live. Between agonized gasps and groans she muttered that her stomach felt as if it were burning up. David was horrified to see people suffering and dying while doctors rushed to save them. He sat in his bed with a traumatizing look trying to observe what was happening, he started walking around trying to find someone that could help him but all he found was people lying motionless on the ground as if they were, “Dead” which was a thought he was afraid of. He ran to the nearest doctor to try to get some answers but the city abruptly went dead silent. David even

David goes out the door to the counter and asks “what happened?”. “We don't know,” the doctor explained. “Why am I here and how am I here?!” David grunted. “It’s some type of disease or flu that we have never seen before” the doctor exclaimed. “All we know is that all the people with this disease have non stop been vomiting black bile and that everyone’s skin would turn yellow and the same would happen with their eyes” the doctor told David. David seems grossed but is determined to find out what causes this. He goes out to find evidence and check to see if there is anything that can help him find a cure or see what is causing this horrible disease.

Before he started his adventure he went to get supplies for himself. David enters a gas station and it is absolutely silent with no noise, he could hear the screams of dying people suffering, the floor trembling, and the sound of his own breath. David, feeling nervous, sprints out of the gas station and has a moment and thinks to himself “Is there anything I can do to resolve this?”. David decides to search the city from one place to another and eventually stumbles across somebody who looked alive and well. Out of David’s curiosity he walked to the person and asked “What is your name?” “Matthew, Matthew is my name.” “Cool, I'm on the search to find the cause of this outbreak, do you want to join me?” “Sure” exclaimed Matthew. 

30 minutes later during David and Matthew’s search, David feels a sudden pain throbbing on his forearm, David quickly acts and smacks the mosquito that he didn't think much of at the time. “Are you okay?” Matthew said kindly. “Yes, and thank you” David said gratefully. But very soon David will come to the conclusion that he has now been infected. While he was running around he started to feel sick and tired but he kept searching for something to eat so he ran into something that could help him.  He felt a bit of discomfort in the area the mosquito bit him, he saw a pond where there were a bunch of mosquitoes where there were a bunch of dead bodies lying around and he thought for a moment, “why are there so many dead people here?” David explained,  he decided he needed to leave Matthew for a moment to tell the doctor what might have caused the disease, he kept feeling the same symptoms of the yellow fever.

Before David starts to die he rushes to the hospital as fast as he can. He has no time to waste and gets rid of anything in his way. “Have to get there” David panted. “They must know that the cause is in Water Street” David hustled. He sees the hospital in the corner of his eyes and blazes through the streets. He gets there and tells the hospital everything he knows. “The cause of this is from a mosquito from Water Street” David grunted. “I haven’t found the cure yet to the disease though” David responded.  

David realizes that there is no cure for this and that he will continue to get sick and rot to death. He embraces his last moments on earth and appreciates all the things he’s been provided. David mumbles, cries, and screams in pain as his bloodshot eyes grew, his skin began to transform, and as he felt pain in his stomach. David takes his last breath and suddenly collapses and unfortunately dies.
