Growing up Katherine's parents both worked. Her father (Joshua Coleman) was a farmer/janitor. Her mother (Joylette Coleman) was a teacher. Katherine could easily solve a mathematic equation. She couldn’t go to some schools that would offer the best possible learning experience for her.  Everything was segregated. Bathrooms, water fountains, etc. Katherine had to take a stand at NASA. One of her first accomplishments was going to high school when she was 10 years old, and graduating when she was 14.  Once Katherine started working at NASA she was given the task of calculating the path of the Freedom 7. The first astronaut in space. The next year she was personally asked by John Glenn (astronaut) to proof read to make sure the numbers were correct. Every number was correct. He was the first astronaut to orbit the earth. Katherine was also part of the team that calculated the launch for the moon. Another character trait that fits her is passionate. Katherine loved to do math. Even form a young age she loved math, math was her passion. She did math every where she went. She loved what she did.
