1. General Discussion of the Form and Function in Architecture.

Architecture is the combination of the Form and Function as one. The form of the structure of the building follows with its function. You can say that the architectural building is good if the form of the building correlates with its function. Even if the building has a beautiful and unique form but if it has no capacity to function then it is therefore a useless building. You cannot just judge an architecture with its shape, colorful distinct design. The form and function of the building too deals with spaces. The spaces of the building is where the function of the building takes place. According to Roger Scruton that an Architectural building does not focus merely on the form and function because Architecture is also sacred. He tells us that we cannot deal with Architecture like a material with function only, it has a sense of life. A life that goes beyond Architecture.

2. A Short Discussion about the Santa Croce church

A harmony of Form and Function is found in an Architecture. One Architecture that can be considered to be beautiful is the Church of Santa Croce not only because of its alluring artistic features that a person can experience pleasure by its senses but it is beautiful since those creative architectural features can strengthen the faith of a Christian as the person appreciates that God is the most perfect beauty. Every detail of the church has a function to showcase a harmony that the architecture represents. As you reach to the church, the first external form you can notice is the large pyramid in the roof in which you can see a blue star called the David’s star. That star is not merely just an artistic design but has the function as a symbolism of the Catholics. You will also see the balance of the scale and proportion in the repetition of columns, post and lintel of the building forming a harmonious structure to the building. The internal part of the church represents a lot of perfectly shaped windows, dome, and a lot more. It has a large space inside in which the church consists of sixteen family chapels inside. Its space was designed to be a meeting place for people who had shared belief in catechism that is why inside the church there are chairs attached to the wall for its function was for people to sit down when they gather. The church not only has a very accommodating space but each chapel has a lot of artistic features by their paintings, sculptures and the architecture itself. The masterpiece of the church is commissioned by the Church to teach the People about Catechism. In addition, Art that is portrayed in the interior part of the building is to inspire faith. As you go to their main chapel, on their very altar you will see a huge cross with Jesus Christ and a background of those colorful windows and walls. Those walls and windows are a painting of the saints in which it functions as a message to the people about the history of the past. The church’s artistic design is not merely for the satisfaction of the senses of a human being but they encompasses that by people who designed and built the Church had a great vision and motivation by which is to glorify God and sharing the gospel of Christ.
