The boundary of the current province is formally defined as the Spaniards, under Juan de Salcedo, entered the Philippines. The province, originally named Kalilayan, has its first provincial capital at the present-day town of Unisan, but it is moved inland to Pagbilao after its destruction and pillaging by Moro pirates. In 1749, the capital was moved to Tayabas, which also became its name until its renaming in 1946.

Because of the oppressive rule by the Spaniards, Tayabas also witnessed uprisings against the colonial authorities, most notably the rebellion led by mystic Hermano Pule (real name, Apolinario de la Cruz). At the end of the 19th century, it was one of the eight provinces that led the revolution against the Spanish authorities.

Civil government was established by the Americans in 1901, and the capital moved to Lucena. The Americans quelled remaining rebellions led by Filipinos in Quezon, as the province served as a supply point for rebels in Batangas and Laguna. Marinduque became part of Tayabas between 1902 and 1920. In December 1941, the Japanese arrived in Quezon, and stayed until their surrender in 1945.

The province of Quezon is in the CALABARZON Region of the Philippines, which is part of the island of Luzon. Lucena is its capital city. The former president Manuel L. Quezon, who was born in Baler, a town that was formerly a part of Tayabas, inspired the name of the province Quezon. Quezon is famous for coconut-based cuisines, lambanog, longganisang Lucban, and pansit habhab.

Tourism is not as developed as in the other provinces in Calabarzon Region but the Quezon province is known for its quaint islands and rugged mountains. Serene beaches and forests attract many nature enthusiasts, along with modern amenities and exciting nightlife. 

In terms of Inflation,  in October 2022, the headline inflation rate in the province of Quezon increased even further from 6.6 percent in September 2022 to 8.3 percent. Since January 2019, this inflation rate has been the highest. With the inflation for this month, the province of Quezon's average inflation rate from January to October 2022 was 4.9 percent. Quezon province itself was where Super Typhoon Karding first made landfall earlier in September before barreling across Luzon and destroying crops and structures in its path. The province wasn’t spared from the wrath of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses in 2020, either as they forced the local government to evacuate the residents in barangays like Luctob. 

Among the worst to hit the province was Typhoon Glenda in 2014, which left 26 people dead, including two from Luctob. 

Last November 1, 2022, The provincial government of Quezon declared a state of calamity on Monday due to widespread destruction caused by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name: Nalgae) which hit the country last weekend.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office in a report on Monday at 6 p.m., said Paeng displaced 33,786 families composed of 122,107 individuals from 753 barangays (villages). At least 802 houses were destroyed and 10,932 houses were damaged.

The Philippines' educational problems have gotten worse as a result of COVID-19, which has also presented new difficulties. Due to the rapid events caused by the health crisis, online or TV distance learning options were required. A blended learning program that combines online classes, printouts and lessons broadcast on TV and social media was also introduced in October 2020. Therefore, internet access for both students and teachers is necessary for the new learning pathways. Many students from different municipalities of Quezon lack access to computers and other digital tools at home, funds to buy mobile loads, poor internet signal, as well as guardians' insufficient knowledge about the students' lessons, making blended learning ineffective for millions of people. Thus, many students are impacted by the importance of technology in education.
