I used to think of texture in terms of things with very identifiable texture: tree bark, a tennis ball, etc. now I think about the textures of things that wouldn’t first make me think of texture. For example, this leaf makes me think first of color and shape.

I used to think I had a good enough vocabulary to describe the texture in one word, but I struggled to come up with one that would describe it definitively. It’s a sort of velvety plastic, but I associate that word more with fabrics, and I would have just said it’s matte, but I tend to associate that more with shininess. I think it’s important to remember that that struggle to come up with a word is going to be something that students are going to have to deal with too, about all kinds of things.

I’m having some difficulty coming up with more word without using a thesaurus. For such a chatty person this is a challenge. I can also say that it is scratchy and flexible.

I used to think of this only as soft but now I came up with more words. I had trouble coming up with words. I did something similar with students, but they had to find adjetives, at least 6, that described themselves and starting with their first name initial.
