Blending on a Circle
Make 2 white hexagons each with a 1 point line and then Blend them to 8 steps. Add the blend to a circle and then change the Blend option to Specified Distance.
Using these same steps, do 2 additional blends with stars with different numbers of points and colors.

Making a Screen

Using the blend tool to create a screen.

Make a shape in the bottom left of the page, drag the shape while holding the ALT & the shift key to create a second shape in the upper left corner that is aligned with the bottom one. Using the Object/Transform, make the top left shape smaller. Blend the 2 shapes using the Specified Distance setting. Remember this measurement. Once the blend is set how you want it, use the Object/Expand to make each step a shape. Now take the column of grouped shapes and move them the same measurement that you used in for the Specified Distance.

Make a new 2 shape brush with the Pattern Brush and apply the new brush to a circle. Duplicate your circle and make your pattern in the inside circle smaller by reducing the stroke size.

Create a rope design and add it to a pattern brush. Apply the new rope brush to a circle.
*Reminder - to subtract using the Shapebuilder tool hold down the ALT key when you are choosing the shapes to subtract.
*To make the inside of the rope colored, click on the rope and then select Expand Appearance in the Object dropdown. You can then use the Shapebuilder brush to change the colors of the inside of the rope.

Type a word that has at LEAST 5 letters in all caps that means summer to you. Find an image that matches the word. Use Clipping Mask to put the image into your word.

Make sure the type has been converted to Create Outlines.
Make sure the word is a compound path.
Make sure the lettering is above the photograph before the Clipping Mask is used.

Fitting a word inside of the shape with Envelope Distort.

Type an ALL CAPS 2 words that have at LEAST 4 letters each.
Create 2 shapes.
Select one of the words and one of the shapes.
Make sure the shape is in front of the word and do an Object/Envelope Distort/Make with Top Object, to fit the word inside of the selected shape.

Fitting an image inside of a shape with a background.

Find an image online and fill the page
Copy & paste in place on 2nd layer
Bottom image 20% transparent
Find a silhouette that is not too complex and place on 2nd layer
Image trace/Make & Expand the image
Object/ungroup - keep the silhouette, delete the background
Object/Compound Path/Make
Object/Clipping Path/Make
Adjust bottom image transparency so top image is visable

Find a rough brush stroke image online A
Copy & paste
Object/Image Trace/Make & Expand the image
Delete white areas
Object/Compound Path/Make - to combine all sections into 1 shape
Window/Brushes - to open brush window
Drag rough brush stroke to the Brushes window
Select Art Brush
Draw a shape and select your new brush in the Brushes tab
Select the Brush tool and draw a freeform line with the new brush you created.
Object/Expand Appearance of your brush stroke to change color

Using Eras Bold ITC Choose a letter
Type/Create outlines to change to a shape
Use the white arrow direct selection tool to stretch out the anchor points of the left side of the letter
Add a 3 color gradient with a small tilt to the right
Go to Effects/Pixelate/Mezzotint/Long lines to create the effect
