         <title>Lecturer: Environmental Science</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The School of Environmental Science (EVSC) invites applications for a full-time continuing teaching faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in Environmental Science. </p><p><br></p><p>We seek a dedicated and innovative educator who will be responsible for teaching courses in environmental science, training and mentoring environmental science students, and contributing to pedagogical leadership of our School. The successful candidate will possess a PhD in any field related to environmental science and will demonstrate a deep and broad knowledge of environmental science topics necessary to effectively teach lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses. They will have a proven track record of teaching, as well as developing science curriculum for majors and non-majors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise using evidence-based pedagogy that fosters an inclusive learning environment. Experience with or strong potential for instructional and curriculum innovation at the undergraduate level will be considered an asset.          <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Position Title: </strong></p><p>Geospatial Graphic Researcher and Designer For Blueberry River First Nation Documentary Video and Exhibit Project </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Skillset / Experience Required: </strong></p><ul><li><p>Student or professional with training and experience with: </p><ul><li><p>Air photo research, ordering, and composite map creation o Google Earth animation to demonstrate changing landscapes over time o Graphic Design for print or video Duties and Responsibilities For a culture and history video with footage of Indigenous knowledge holders showing the locations of old cabin sites where their ancestors lived, we are looking for assistance with creating ortho-mosaic maps of the area showing the cultural landscape when the cabins were standing</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Ordering historic air-photos of specific areas (already identified in .kml files) taken in the Peace River Region from the 1930s through 1960s from: <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://gic.geog.ubc.ca/">https://gic.geog.ubc.ca/</a> </p></li><li><p>Scanning the air photos at high resolution; </p></li><li><p>Creating ortho-mosaic composite maps that can be overlaid with contemporary maps of the area as graphic elements for our documentary video; </p></li><li><p>Consultation about Google Earth options for creating video animations showing changing landscapes over time. </p></li></ul><p><em>The graphic products will be also be incorporated into museum exhibits (both physical installations and virtual exhibitions). </em></p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Terms:</strong></p><p>Short term freelance contract. </p><p>Start: April 22 or ASAP. </p><p>Time Estimate: 40 hours minimum. </p><p><br/></p><p>We anticipate additional work to follow this first phase, applying the same process to additional locations of cultural importance to Blueberry River First Nations people. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Compensation:</strong> </p><p>$30-$50 / hr depending on experience. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Location and Supervision:</strong> </p><p>Virtual work from your own office.          <description><![CDATA[<p>The UBC Disaster Resilience Research Network (DRRN) is excited to announce a new Postdoctoral Research Fellowship opportunity. This 12-month position is focused on studying and quantifying the impact of seismic and flood mitigation measures in British Columbia.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Carlos Molina Hutt and Dr. Kees Lokman, contributing to this important research aimed at improving disaster resilience in our province.
