On the one hand, it is an undeniable fact that big corporations can provide inputs to the government. The most common contributions are investments and donations of huge amounts of money. This income can be used to improve the countries’ current situations, enhancing aspects such as the education, the public transportation systems and the condition of roads and public spaces. What is more, the capital provided comes in handy to solve problems, thus poverty and environmental issues. But money is not the only thing companies can contribute with. Another advantage can be the supply of knowledge and technology. This is very important, because it is key when it comes to the development of every country. With these resources in their power, the governments can acquire new ideas and innovations to address the issues mentioned above.

On the other hand, a clear disadvantage is that it is difficult to choose which company to trust. In theory, enterprises take care not only of their workers, but also of the society, as they promise; but in reality, they tend to only seek their own needs. For example, in the movie “Don't look up”,we can see how Bash, a huge industry, deceives people into thinking that they are safe and protected by them, while in fact, they are planning to save themselves only, if their plan falis, which in the end does. A further drawback is that corporations can be involved in scamful and/or illegal environments. That is to say that they will appear as ethical and well-meaning enterprises, but this could just be a mask to cover their real intentions, and end up dragging the government into dangerous and risky situations. For instance, the corporations could be money-washing or trafficking illegal products.

All things considered, there are certain pluses and minuses associated with private companies being involved in the decisions and laws made by the governments. There is no doubt that corporations can contribute with money, as well as technology and innovations to help solve different problems. But certainly, the drawbacks, being the dangers of trusting companies and their intentions, clearly outweigh the advantages. So, to our minds, private corporations should not influence the governments´ regulations.

En la película, un aspecto puesto en evidencia que podemos notar es la manipulación de la verdad. Lo podemos ver, por ejemplo, con las dos posturas que se forman: el movimiento Look Up, por un lado, propuesto por los científicos, el cual defiende la verdad comprobada por estudios científicos, y finalmente por la propia detección del cometa en sí, ya que al fin es visible; y por otro lado, el movimiento Don't Look Up, promovido por el gobierno, que alentaba a la sociedad a apoyar la ignorancia, y no prestar atención a la verdad. Podemos decir que estos últimos solo eran apoyados por personas ignorantes, que hasta último momento creyeron en ellos, hasta que el cometa era tan evidente que no podía ser negado por nadie. Así podemos criticar la hipocresía del gobierno, y cuestionar hasta qué punto debemos escucharlos solo por ser nuestras mayores autoridades. ¿Debemos creerles ciegamente, esperando o asumiendo que harán lo mejor para todos? Con esta película podemos darnos cuenta de que no, debemos tener la habilidad de cuestionar lo que nos dicen, para no caer en la ignorancia, y de no solo coincidir con una idea porque la defiende la mayoría, sin antes analizar la situación. 

Esto nos lleva a la existencia de diferentes discursos en la película. Debemos analizar cada uno de ellos, para así formar nuestra opinión, teniendo en cuenta si pertenecen a un discurso científico, político o mediático, y tener en cuenta de dónde surge cada discurso, es decir, no confiar nunca ciegamente, como mencionamos anteriormente. Por ejemplo, al igual que con los políticos, no debemos confiar en una supuesta verdad solo porque la dice un científico, y más si no sabemos nada de él o de otros estudios que haya realizado. Para formar nuestra opinión, además de analizar las fuentes de información, debemos tener bien en claro nuestros valores, y no dejarnos llevar por ideales que no coincidan con nuestra moral. Tales como la mentira o la distorsión de la información, cómo podemos ver en la película. Podemos ver esto cuando la científica hace lo que ella cree correcto y coincide con sus valores, que es no mentirle a la gente como lo hacen en los medios, desmintiendo muchas cosas dichas, y les dice la verdad sin importar lo que le puedan llegar a decir. 

Podemos concluir que la película nos deja muchas enseñanzas que podemos implementar en nuestras vidas, siendo una de las más importantes el hecho de no creer todo lo que dice el gobierno o los medios ciegamente, sino más bien informarse desde las posturas que haya sobre un tema y de ahí tomar una decisión personal y no influenciada. Es una película que sin duda nos deja mucho para reflexionar acerca de nuestro día a día y de sus referencias sobre nuestra sociedad.
