I thought that the findings from investigating this area in relation to ground based contemporary would be beneficial to my dance practice and would aid me in constructing a plan for how to sustain the highest levels of IM possible in light of the research I will conduct.

Pain management is an subject that I feel plays a prominent role within my training and dance practice. Pain management is something that I am constantly considering on a day to day basis regarding both chronic pain and general injury, so I feel that given the opportunity to research a variety of dance science topics, it is imperative for me to continue to further my knowledge and understanding of pain and how this correlates to my contemporary dance practice.

In my summative assignment I am setting out to research whether Dance focused environments create a hostile space for pain management and alter perceptions of pain more than other training environments. Or simply put: is pain harder to manage as a dancer. Research from 'The Scandinavian journal of pain' found that "Pain seems to be accepted as a necessity, often ignored and dancing is continued despite pain."

I feel that it is important to continue on with my research on sleep and rest and apply it to my contemporary practice because whilst I feel I am most proficient in my rest and sleep schedule, my energy levels are also the most temperamental factor in my performance outcomes in contemporary.
