I would engage my students in reading in my classroom by teaching in small groups. Students can have a better understanding of literacy through a teacher's guidance.

To engage my students with literacy in my classroom, I would have my students popcorn read out loud. For example, I would have one student start reading a section, and then have another student pick up where the last student left off. This way each student must be fully engaged into the book.

Ivy Ruhlen I would engage my students by using picture books and including interactive activities such as the hot seat. This would allow them to not only take away what the story has to offer, but also a deeper understanding of how the characters may think and feel. This will stimulate higher levels of thinking and deeper understandings and world connections.

Caitlyn Albritton - I would use story retelling for kindergarten students. I would read the students a picture book, discuss the book with them, and then let the students retell the story in their own words. The students would take turns retelling the stories in front of the class. This would allow me to be able to see if the students understood what the book was about. This activity would also be a fun way to get the students up and moving while they are learning.

Rachel Bostic-- I would teach reading to my students by having small groups (centers). This would provide the students with one on one learning which would help them to be able to understand the information better. I would also use picture books because during field experience I found out how much students really learn from them.

I would have the students complete small group activities after the book that relate to the book. Activities would consist of graphic organizers that the students would list the title, main idea, setting, and characters. I would also have them do roll play to the characters in the story.

I would teach reading in my classroom by letting students read in small groups, reading to my students, and also having them read chorally as a class. I like the idea of having students work together in groups and completing a storyboard. The story boards ensure that students know the title, author, characters, setting, and main ideas of the book. The students have the opportunity to share their ideas, but also have support from other students. This also gives students the opportunity to share their creativity in a fun engaging activity.
