The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 by General Assembly resolution 217 A (III) as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.

The most significant document, Universal Declaration for Human Rights, was adopted by the UN member countries on December 10, 1948 and the UDHR urges member nations to respect, protect and fulfil a number of human, civil, economic and social rights. Universal Declaration of Human Rights comprises of thirty articles, asserting these rights are part of the “foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world”. Constitution of Pakistan from articles eight to twenty eight are fully in conformity with the UDHR to respect, protect and fulfil the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the country.

As the international feminist movement began to gain momentum during the 1970s, the General Assembly declared 1975 as the International Women’s Year and organized the first World Conference on Women, held in Mexico City. At the urging of the Conference, it subsequently declared the years 1976-1985 as the UN Decade of Women , and established a Voluntary Fund for Decade.

In 2015, the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey revealed that 34 percent of LGBT students were bullied on school property. Similarly, Out & Equal reports that one in four LGBT employees face discriminatory treatment in the workplace.
