"The snail and the whale" By Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

I chose this story as it links in with the Sustainable Development Goal 14 ‘Life below water’, This story links with this goal as it is about a whale who takes a snail on an adventure across the sea but then the whale loses his way and became laying beached in the bay, the snail then has an idea to help he whale and goes to the school and writes on the chalkboard ‘save the whale’ the children, fighter fighters and the adults went to help the whale, the tide came back into the bay and the snail and the whale were able to travel safely and they made their way back to the dock and then the whale then let all the snails on his tail and they sang and set sail on the whales tail. This book links in with goal 14 as it shows the reader the children helping the whale and shows the importance of protecting ocean life to the reader.

The theme of the story is resilience and shows the reader that no matter how small they are, they can achieve great things if they put their mind to it.

Activity 3- Sensory Ocean Bottle

This activity links with SGD 14 'Life under water', this activity has sensory benefits for the child and also encourages the child to slowly tilt the bottle upside down and observe the movement of the ocean animals as the oil and water whirl around in their home, also known as the bottle.

Activity 2- Fishy Puppet Play

This activity links with SDG 14 and goal 12 Responsible consumption and Production , this activity is where the child makes fish puppets out of coloured paper to build sea animals out of discarded materials to promote responsible consumption. The child would make the puppets out of recycled toliet paper rolls and use paint to paint them to make fish vibrant and colourful. This activity can benefit the development of the Childs fine motor skills and the child can learn about how colourful ocean animals are. This activity also educates the child about responsible consumption and production.

This activity SDG 14 'life under water', in this activity the child will make boats similar to the boats in the story, this allows the child be creative and imaginative on how they create their boats, this activity may also open up questions for the child to ask about boats in the ocean life. This activity benefits the child as it helps with cognitive skills and boosts the Childs creativity and knowledge about the ocean and life under the ocean.
