  • Propaganda is used to control the citizens of society.  
    • Jack tries to outwit Ralph and take control of the children using his own influence.
    • Information, independent thought, and freedom are restricted. 
    The children must follow the strict rules and regulations that were democratically elected (the children all voted and decided). 
    • A figurehead or concept is worshipped by the citizens of the society. 
    The mystic and frightening Pighead is worshipped as an idol. 
    • Citizens are perceived to be under constant surveillance. 
    • Citizens have a fear of the outside world
      • The Kids are afraid of a supposed "Monster," on the island, and Jack uses it to keep the other children in fear so they listen to him. 
    • Citizens live in a dehumanized state. 
    Jack and some children who follow him decide to oppose the children who either 
    • The natural world is banished and distrusted. 
    The children throw away all previous knowledge of law and rules to make their own.
    • Citizens conform to uniform expectations. Individuality and dissent are bad.
    The children are somewhat forced to conform to Jacks rules.
    • The society is an illusion of a perfect utopian world.
