With lights movies and even a parade but it was not like that all the time. When USA first became independent and it was very Christion they actually banned chrismas.  Even in some villages if one exhibited a Christmas spirit they would get a fine. The reason why Chrismas was banned was because Chrismas was not at first a very calm and not really Christion.
