In 1938, the Rhesus macaque were introduced to an island in the Caribbean. Areas such as Cayo Santiago, and Puerto Rico studied these animals for information about their behaviors. In central Florida, many of the rhesus macaque were released into the forests to increase tourism rates. There was an attempt to control breeding; however, they continued to grow in numbers, resulting in them being threatening to native populations.

The Best Method

Solar fencing is the best method in deterring rhesus macaques. The fence is electrified with pulsating currents, which deliver a short, sharp, but non-lethal shock to anything that touches it. This creates psychological fear towards the fence, which is why it is so effective in repelling animals, especially the rhesus macaque.

To set up solar fencing, you will need to plan the fence layout and purchase the fence. The fence must be at least 7 feet tall. The cost will vary depending on the strength of the shock and the amount of fencing. Then, you must install the fence posts, insulators, wire, and the solar-powered energizer. Having a battery for the solar electric fence system is recommended. Lastly, connect the energizer to the fence and grounding system and test the fence.

You will need permission from your local authorities to install solar fencing, as the fence will shock anything that touches it, including children and pets.

The absence of monkeys and other animals will be a clear and rewarding sign that your solar fencing has succeeded in repelling rhesus macaques.
