In the book The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon a girl gets lost in a forest while hiking with her family. Instead of staying put she walks for almost a week, not knowing what's real and what fake. She feels like she's being stalked by the god of the lost but has Tom Gordon by her side. She has limited food, water, and stamina, will she ever get out?

I loved reading this book do to the suspense and spookiness. The hallucinations add to the book making it so you don’t know what to believe and makes the end more surprising. The character keeps getting close to freedom but makes mistakes and wrong turns making it hard to put the book down. The book has a mix of reality and fiction which I love. All in all this book is a great read and makes you want more!

The Book “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card takes place in a futuristic society where an alien race, called the buggers, has attacked Earth. The military is recruiting six year old boys to go to battle school in space where they are trained to fight, in case of the next time the buggers invade. Ender is recruited, and dominates the games, but, the instructors isolate him from the rest of the group. They know Ender is the best and that he has potential. The rest of the book is action packed and shows how Ender finds his way through the conflicts he faces, showing that people can reach their limit.

I liked the book because of the deep message it provided. Unlike other YA books, it did not simplify issues in the world that people face every day. Ender is put under too much pressure, and the book shows the process of how he deals with it. The book is emotional in many parts which caused me to feel what Ender is feeling. I also liked the book because of the way it was written and the style of the writing. Ender’s Game was an overall outstanding book.

My book is called “Where the Watermelons Grow” and it is about a twelve-year old girl named Della Kelly and she lives on a farm which are her father’s farm. She has lived in Maryville all her life, North Carolina. Della’s father grows watermelons and butter beans on those farms. While that, Della’s mother is sick and is diagnosed with schizophrenia. When Della was born her mother got sick but it went away for years. After those couple of years her father and mother had another child name Mylie. After Della’s mom had Mylie she had gotten sick again and way sicker than before. Her mother starts spiraling out of control and her mama starts hearing people that aren’t there, scrubbing the kitchen floor until her hands get raw, and waking up at night to cut the black seeds from all the watermelons in the house. Della’s father was struggling to save the farm and save it from a drought Della decided to heal her mama up for good. Della goes to the Bee lady and get a jar of her magic honey which has mended the wounds in Maryville for centuries. Della didn’t want to hear the Bee lady’s truth that the solution of honey trying to fix her mama’s brain wouldn’t be the solution. In the end Della just has to accept her mama the way she is.

Book Review on The Power of 5: Evil Star

It takes five to save the world. And the second boy has been found in Peru. Some of the world’s smartest and richest fund the five, who are yet to be found, and one has been obtained, the other has been found. In the book The Power of 5: Evil Star by Anthony Horowitz is about four boys and a girl who has to work together to save the world if they fail, the Old Ones will awaken and destroy the world. Under the thumb of the Old Ones are many, some have agreed for revenge, others for power. The five of them spread out across the world, all ready to be strung together by Nexus.
Evil Star is a book that you can read very fast and still enjoy because of how many twists and turns there are. The author writes in way that makes it so that when you begin to read you understand the characters, then he takes you on a ride, up, down, left, right, in any direction you can think of, and you can’t stop reading until the ride has stopped, to be yet again set on another ride. He makes an author to reader connection, but not through his literal expressions and emotions, but he is giving you the characters lives when he writes, and in the end, you understand almost exactly what the author wanted you to think, and you understand the not-so-secret.

The book I will write about is Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalo. The main character’s name is Audrey Rose, a doctor's apprentice. She and her fiancé are traveling from 19th century London to 19th century America on a carnival cruise ship. But one night a terrifying turn of events happens onboard. Murder. Somebody was murdered at the dinner show on the Moonlight Carnival. The story goes through her and her fiancé’s journey to solve the case.

I enjoyed this book because it constantly kept you on the edge of your seat. It was very interesting and very hard to put down. I recommend you get this book for the classroom. While it is very gruesome, with details of what the murder looked liked, it also goes into great detail about dresses and costumes and acts in the creepy carnival. Personally, I think it would be a great movie.

Write your review here: Jane Arrowood is a fifteen-year-old girl who lost her right arm to a shark while she was swimming in California. Jane gets transported into the hospital and meets a 10-year-old boy named Justin who got his leg amputated. Jane and Justin get along really well in the hospital. Janes shark attack gets into the news, which gives the book its name, Shark Girl. Jane gets her new fake arm, which she names Chuck, and it helps with her everyday life. When Jane returns to school, the only person, except her friends, who was nice to her was Max Shannon, who just so happens to be the most popular person in school. Max is really kind to her, and does not like her just because she only has one arm, but because of who she is on the inside. Shark Girl is probably going to have to be my favorite book, along with Formerly Shark Girl.

The book “Spaced out” by Stuart Gibbs, is about a secret base on the moon called Moonbase Alpha. Nina, the base commander has gone missing and the moonies are in panic mode. It was time to search. Dash Gibson, a 12-year old that also lives on MBA are the Moonies’ only hope. Dash is the best investigator they have and is trying his best to find and retrieve Nina before it’s too late.

This book has inspired me to read more of Stuart Gibbs’ book because they will always teach you some kind of lesson. In my opinion, this book “Spaced Out” is a really outstanding book and you can kind of actually feel like you’re on the moon with Dash. The author writes in a really positive tone and just reading the book can light up your day. He also uses a very clear perspective from Dash so you can really understand the book and what the author is trying to tell you. Overall, I think that “Spaced Out” is a wonderful book and maybe you should try reading it someday.

What I have read so far in the book is that after Dumbledore died in the six book, it left his work of finding Voldemort's Horcruxes incomplete. Harry Potter then needs to find somewhere safe to hide and wants to find the Horcruxes and destroy them before facing Voldemort who (as far as they know) is holding on to the last part of his soul in his body. This meant that if all the Horcruxes were destroyed then Voldemort would be susceptible to Harry killing him in person, unlike the times before in past battles. The trio Harry, Hermione, and Ron needed to find all the Horcruxes with only a few clues given to them by Dumbledore that the Ministry of Magic had given to them earlier on in the book. Since the Ministry was allowed to look through someone’s will before handing it out to their recipients of the person’s will. This meant that when the trio received what Dumbledore had left them (a golden snitch, a Deluminator, and a book of children’s fairy tales), they were not certain that was all that he had left them. They eventually find the real locket Horcrux that Dolores Umbridge had in her possession at the Ministry, The Sword of Gryffindor, the Ravenclaw Diadem, and the Cup of Hufflepuff. The Ravenclaw Diadem was then destroyed by the basilisk fang. Even though this was more than the writing requirement, it all needed to be included because the plot is complicated and has many more twists and different parts than most other books.

I am liking the book so far because I have previously read all of the other books that have come prior to this one which is the last book of the series. I am excited to finish reading the book because when I do, the story of Harry Potter will be completed and I will be able to officially say that I have read and watched all of the Harry Potter series. I was fond of this book in particular because since it is the last book in the series, it is wrapping up everything and uncovering secrets every chapter. Every time I read, even if it is in the ten minutes in class, I get instantly intrigued into the book, and find out at least one thing that the characters were looking for earlier into the story. Also, J.K Rowling has an amazing ability to describe every scene although it is happening in real life, and that you are really a part of the book. This enriching quality throughout the book has made it thoroughly enjoyable to read. This attention to detail has made people love characters and then hate them, and has made us feel as if we are best friends with the character, and creating emotional attachments to them. I am fully aware that the characters are not real but I can’t help but feel real human emotions when something happens to them. This is why “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is an amazing book and one that I have been very happy to be reading.

7 elementary school 5th graders all share a new teacher. One, a know-it-all, a clown, a new girl, a school hater, a church girl, and a drama queen. Within the first few days, everyone begins to like Mr. Terupt. After a girl war, visiting autistic kids, and more. A tragedy strikes leaving the classroom full of self-blame.Because of Mr. Terupt is a good, heartfelt book and when reading it it is impossible to not feel bad for these kids as they go through struggles. I like this book because it was realistic yet you enjoy it like it is a fiction book. Also, since these kids are in 5th grade it is easy to relate to them. I would recommend this book for all the readers out there (THAT INCLUDES YOU!)-Ben-jamin

The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan is about two apprentices and a ranger who are stationed in Celta on a mission for the Ranger Corps. On this mission, they find no sign of inhabitance in Celta and suspect Morgarath (A traitor and villain to the country) to have developed a plan to surmount the impassable mountains with his army of wargals. Desperately, Gillian, the ranger, decamps leaving Will the ranger apprentice in charge of Evanlyn (a survivor they encountered) and the warrior apprentice, Horace. They pursue a camp of wargals to testify Gillian’s theory, find a bridge, and stop an invasion by burning it after eavesdropping and finding valuable information. While burning the bridge, Will and Evanlyn are taken captive by Skandians and Horace escapes bringing more knowledge of the situation to the King who unites his armies and is able to defeat the forces of Morgarath.
The Burning Bridge is my favorite book because it had numerous scenes of action. The book before also left a good cliffhanger which was continued in this book and I was enthusiastic to continue with the series. Now, most Rangers Apprentice books are like this but this book really stood out because when reading it I felt like I was there, taking place as one of the characters. To me, it also had the best plot and climax in the series. Overall, I liked this book because the author was able to use precise words to make the situation realistic and enjoyable.

After who knows what happened, it seems like all of the laws of the universe just collapsed on themselves, and all of the people above the age of 15 disappear. Because of these powers, people are fighting for power control, but only one can come out on top.

I thought that Gone was such a great book because, it was full of action, and that on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense. I personally like the way that Gone is in the perspective of multiple different people, the good and the bad. I also liked how Gone is kind of a layer upon layer book. You thought you knew something, but then one more peice of information and now your drowning in questions. Overall, Gone is a great book for thrill-seekers, and a really good book in general just for a fun read. So go grab your book today! (Why did that have to sound like the end of a commercial?). - Victor Joulin Batejat

The book “Pieces of Why” by K.L. Going is a really interesting book. The main character, Tia, lives with her mom in a dangerous neighborhood in New Orleans and loves singing in the Rainbow Choir with Keisha, her boisterous and assertive best friend. Tia’s dream is to change the world with her voice, Tia would definitely be talented enough to make her dream come true. When a shooting occurs in her neighborhood and she learns the truth about the crime that had made her father go to jail multiple years ago, Tia finds out that she can’t sing anymore. The loss prompts her to start asking the people in her community hard questions, questions everyone has always been afraid to ask.

Pieces of Why is a great book because it makes you want to keep reading, to discover what will be up next. K.L. Going makes every scene intriguing, if it is sad, happy, or scary, she finds a way to leave suspense at the end of that one scene. Pieces of Why is also an amazing book because once you start reading it, you are totally transferred to that whole other world, your imagination gets so big, you forget about whatever happened to your day.

-Miel Abitbol

The world of a twelve-year-old girl suddenly gets flipped upside down when her sister, dad and best friend were all brutally murdered. The Girl Who Lived, goes into a girl’s mind who was the sole survivor of a murder. It is the tenth anniversary of the murder and Faith who has been in and out of asylums sees the murder. Everyone thinks she is crazy and drunk, but did she really see him?

The Girl Who Lived is a story that constantly keeps you on edge. You go into Faith’s thoughts and feel for her. Greyson does such a great job of describing her despair you feel as though she is a real person that had these emotions. In the last one hundred pages you can’t put the book down it keeps you wanting more and throughout the book it has you contemplating how you would react to this situation. In Faith’s thoughts you hear how what she is doing is reasonable, but really if you ran into her you would think she is insane.

- Abby Plezia

In a country ravished by hunger, a man named Wang Lung farms his land, tilling the dry, thirsty earth. The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck, is a gripping novel about the hierarchy of a small Chinese town in the countryside. As the main character Wang Lung visits the house of the local rich people, he gets a wife, and his prosperity steadily increases. Even as he reaches the height of his life, his jealous uncle spreads lies about him and undermines him, which multiplies when there is a famine, forcing Wang Lung’s family to move, and the townspeople grow suspicious and unscrupulous towards Wang Lung. However, the life of Wang Lung continues, as it always does.
I liked the book because of the poetic approach that Pearl S. Buck took to describing the daily life of a man and his family’s struggle for survival. I also liked the brutal realism that the book took towards the survival of a farmer. As one reads about the meteoric rise to prosperity of Wang Lung, it is interesting to note how others receive Wang Lung’s success, and the human condition to envy others who have success. In the case of Wang Lung’s uncle, the envy quickly turns into the hard pit of hate. The ideology that Pearl S. Buck uses to convey the realism of being a poor farmer who quickly gains money and power is unparalleled in any of the other books I’ve read and is why I chose this book to review. To conclude, The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck, is a poetic yet realistic story about the path to success in the Chinese countryside.

My favorite book of this quarter has to be spy school goes south. This book is about a young spy named Benjamen Ripley. On this mission, S.P.Y.D.E.R. has holed up in a resort in Mexico. Murry Hill who was once held captive by the spy academy has said that he will lead Ben and Erica to S.P.Y.D.E.R. I love this book since it is set up as one action follows the next and the plan always (even if not sticking to the plan) works. All the action scenes are spread out through the book so even if it is boring at one point it picks right back up again.

In my opinion, this is a great easy read and always is always a thriller no matter the book in the series. Spoiler, I love the parts where even though Erica tells Ben not to get involved he does anyway. This is why I love this book and the whole series.

By: Nicolas Bejar

The book The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan is told through the perspective of a teenage boy (Carter) and his sister (Sadie). The book switches between the two character’s points of view and begins with Carter telling us that his mother had died when he was six and his sister was taken to live with her grandparents in London while Carter was taken by his father who is a famous archeologist. Carter travels the world with his father visiting archeology sites all across the world and only sees his sister one day each year. The book begins the day Carter visits Sadie in London and after events on the visit, Carter and Sadie Kane begin learning all about Egyptian Mythology. After less then a year of training to be Egyptian magicians, the Kanes have to fight the god of evil and prevent the world from ending. I liked the book because of the creativity and concept of the book. The book was a very easy read for me because of the way it was written and the fact that there were basically no challenging words. I liked the creativity of the book and the action incorporated into the story. The Red Pyramid was supposed to be a mythological action/adventure but Rick Riordan incorporated other concepts, like romance, that did not go along with the book and felt like they were thrown in. Overall, this book was a relatively good read and I would recommend it for people who enjoy mythological stories.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy puts us with Arthur Dent, human, and resident of Cottington, in a reality where the Earth has been demolished to make way for an intergalactic highway. Moments before the Earth is destroyed, Arthur’s friend Ford Prefect, part-time alien and writer of the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy whisks him away to a Vogon ship. The Vogon leader, coincidentally on this ship, hates hitchhikers and forces them to listen to Vogon poetry as a form of torture. The duo is jettisoned in an airlock to be killed, and are saved by the Heart of Gold, the ship of Zaphod Beeblebrox, the President of the Galaxy. Along with Zaphod and Trillian, his human companion, the two go on an adventure to find the lost planet Magrathea, which used to sell luxury planets and made the Earth. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is an easy read and a wild one. The sheer absurdity and fun of this book are it's defining characteristics, and the ones that have made it so popular. The witty adventures are also a great part of this book, add in a laugh every five words, strange creatures, and weird characters, and you get a winner. While the plotline is out-of-this-world (Pun not intended), it is still easy to follow and great for quick reads. To conclude, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a fun, quick read that makes for a great book no matter what you are reading it for. Remember, DON’T PANIC.

Who is that half-dead girl who goes on a wacky and mysterious adventure through the streets of London, into a palace as a disguised aristocrat and travels to an alternate dimension? Nobody , except if you’re Ivy Pocket. A girl of many talents, pretty much exceptional at everything, still strange to the others around her. Her new journey is full of life, from calming down a hysterical cook, to owning new property from dead duchess’s deceased lawyer. And of course, saving her friend from another world as she is desperate about finding out who her mother actually is. Will she ever save Rebecca? Will she ever discover the hidden truth?	I dearly enjoy Bring Me the Head of Ivy Pocket because it is a wonderful story, full of action and humor. Caleb Krisp uses funny and comical elements that bring the story to life, making you intrigued on what’s going to happen next. The other reason is about how humorous Ivy Pocket is with her strange attitude of all kinds, with Caleb Krisp developing the character to be as amusing as ever. With this story’s superbly witty style, you can’t ever take your hands off the book!

There they encounter a man named Slartibartfast who is ver fond of fjords. We then learn that a computer named Deep Thought found that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42. They then learn that Deep Thought designed a computer that would be able to figure out the actual question that Deep Thought answered. This computer was the Earth that was destroyed right before it finished calculating the question to 42.

The group also discover that the mice of the human, Trillian, are actually a race of hyper-intelligent beings that financed the construction of the Earth. These mice request that they disect Arthur to find the question who refuses. This leads to the group fleeing back to the Heart of Gold where they decide to go to The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe. This leads to the second book of the series of the same name.

Overall the book was a joy to read and had me laughing at the absurdity of the book many a time. I recommend it to those even if they don’t find it funny as remove the humorous aspect the book stands well nonetheless.

A cool new RPG has taken the world (or at least Brooklyn, New York) by storm. Lots of people are playing it. It’s called Reign of Dragons, in which one person (the GM) tells a story the others take place in. The other people are free to make their own characters as representatives in order to fulfill the random quests the GM wants to send their way. However, in Denis Markell’s The Game Masters of Garden Place, one of their Reign of Dragons sessions takes an interesting turn when they actually summon their characters into the real world. From then on, they have to role-play their characters through the real world and discover the truth behind the game.

I liked reading The Game Masters of Garden Place because it took an interesting take on D&D and other role-playing games, which are one of my interests. It also carries an interesting storyline between the real-world one and the fantasy-world one, and doesn’t spend too much time on either one while they’re separate. The twists and turns throughout the story kept me reading, and I never wanted to put this book down until I was done. The Game Masters of Garden Place is a great read that I definitely recommend!

Thirteen plus one by Lauren Myracle is about a girl named Winnie and her life as a 14-year-old. She is in 8th grade and she made a list of goals to complete before high school rolls around. In each chapter, she completes one of her goals and learns a life lesson. She has a boyfriend who she has gotten into an argument with because he isn’t being fair with her. Over the summer she goes to a month sleep away camp in South Carolina with her 2 best friends Cinnamon and Dinah. They help her through her journey to turning 15 as she slowly matures into high school.

Thirteen plus one is a great book because it is part of a series called Winnie years. Winnie years has 5 books: ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, thirteen plus one and each tells the story of a girl named Winnie and how she matures and learns new things throughout the year. As a reader, you get to compare your life at those ages as you grow up to Winnie and it helps you understand the meaning of the book more. You get to know a lot about Winnie and her friends and you really feel connected to her and her actions. In the end, Winnie years is a great book series and you will find yourself wrapped up in these books as soon as you pick one up.

He goes with his friend too.

I liked this book because of the many things that happen. There is a lot of weird things at camp green lake. This was kind of a page turner for me.

In the story Home of the brave, a boy named Kek who is from Africa has survived a shooting in his village, he can’t find his mother who promised she would come to America. He has lost his father and his brother in the tragic shooting. He then traveled to Minnesota to live with his aunt and cousin Ganward. He does not speak English and faces problems communicating with other people.

In my opinion, this book has given me a beautiful story about a kid named Kek. This book has made me realize that Kek is a brave boy and that he loves animals. I personally would give this book a 5/5 star(s) because it has a inspirational story. This book is one of a kind and I would definitely recommend this book to those who are interested. This book is also one of my favorite books right now.

The world is divided by blood. Slivers have powers reds are ordernary people that are treated like the slivers slaves. Reds go by there lives following the rules hoping that today they don’t have to go to the war. The book Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard is the second book in the series Red Queen. This book focus on the main character Mare Barrow and her friends on the run from Maven the Silver king. I like the Glass Sword book because it has lots of action and fighting. But one reason I really like this book is because Mare, the main character, is very brave and does things her way. Because of the way this character acts it makes the book more exciting too read. I also like this book because it is a period of time where a lot on tech. is coming out and there is still major wars. Because of these things this book has a lot of action which is why I love reading the Glass Sword.

My favorite book in the first quarter of the year that I read was “The Lost Continent”. The author of this book was Tui T. Sutherland, she makes very good books. The book is about a silkwing, (a type of dragon in that book), ad she is trying to save her “hive”, aka her home from leafwings, (another type of dragon), and other corrupt inhabitants. The main character is a silkwing named Blue, he is a juvenile, has not sprouted his wings yet, still has little wing buds on his back, (basically big shoulder muscles for his wings in the bud stage), and has antenna to help locate other things and people when needed.

The Lost Continent is a great read because it has the perfect mix of emotion, action, adventure, and other things too. The author hooks the reader with the awesome detail and the amazing way the author says things. The book helps you understand better at the beginning of the book because it has a prophecy, a couple pages describing and showing the images of the dragon in the book. The book is very interesting and has great ways of introducing characters and continuing the story in the book. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves dragons and fantasy.

This started when the Gladers escaped the maze then arrived in the “Real World”. When they arrived there they discovered that a disease named the “Flare” had killed thousands of millions of people. It didn't stop there the disease turned humans into a somewhat ‘zombie’ state where they seemed inhuman and lacked emotion for others in other words a zombie.

I liked this book because it had everything that I like it had mystery, action, adventure, and drama-ish.Also, the author James Dashner uses very strong and powerful words to explain emotion an event that is happening or already happened which really seemed to impulse the story forward and give it a more exciting feeling to the reader which can determine if a reader likes or dislikes a book.

The world you know has been taken over by the population police in Margaret Peterson Haddix’s book Among the Brave. The world is overpopulated and the population police are trying to kill all “illegal” 3rd children. The Population Police make rules, control the government, and even decides who gets food. Many 3rd children hide in plain sight to not be taken away from like the main character, Luke.

Among the Brave is an amazing book because of the suspense and bravery worked throughout the book. As a reader, you will be waiting to know what Luke will do next. Margaret intertwines bravery in Luke all throughout the books, from courageous acts to helping other (or trying to). Margret also weaves suspense into the book by cutting you off at cliffhangers at the end of every chapter. All in all, Among the Brave, is an amazing book that will leave you on the edge on your chair waiting for more.
-Charlotte Norton

Lennie and George, the dynamic duohatever you want to call it. Of Mice and Men conveys the cliché but true story of two friends living life. The story takes place during the Great Depression, where the two are migrant workers hopping from farm to farm. The two are the only people in the Depression who have each other’s back. They won’t leave each other’s side, almost as if the two create one. They meet many different people along their journey to freedom and mention building their own farm and plantation, as well as a rabbit farm, numerous times in the story.
*SPOILER ALERT*

In the end, George has caught Lennie making too many mistakes and even caught him killing a bunny, as well as a woman unintentionally, due to his mental issue. All of these errors led to George putting Lennie out of his misery, shooting him in the back of the head. George knew that if he didn’t put Lennie down himself, Lennie would be put through a painful death, since everyone already disliked him.

*NON SPOILER*

This book may be a little hard to understand at first, but for some readers, it may be a little easier. It goes through the story of hardships, friendships, and sacrifices. Of Mice and Men is a phenomenally written book, and a definite must-read and a highly recommended book.

It turns out that Ford was actually a field researcher for the reference book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, instead of an Earthling, as he led Arthur to believe. The two find themselves in a strange conflict, joined with fellow Earthling Trillian and the galaxy’s president, Zaphod Beeblebrox. The tale continues, and ultimately comes to the meaning of life itself.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a very humorous and enjoyable read. Adams does an incredible job of making the text make as little sense as possible, all the while keeping his readers engaged. Hidden beneath the laughter is a good, well-thought-out plot, the hunt for meaning ever-present. All of the characters are enjoyable, and their cynicism adds to the tone in the almost sci-fi tale. Some might not enjoy this book, but I found it entertaining and engaging, and definitely a worthwhile read.
-Isaac McGreevy

It’s been years since the Bugger’s last attack. But for the first time, earth may be ready for these advanced aliens. Ender Wiggin, of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, has been monitored since birth, and with training, he may become the best- and the only- hope for stopping these creatures. That is, if the pressure doesn’t break him first.

Ender’s Game is beautifully written featuring a mix between futuristic technology and military strategy. This combination results in few boring moments and a roller coaster of a plot. Behind each twist is a new problem for the super genius of a kid to solve. The ‘instructors’ play with Ender’s mind similar to Card’s effect on the reader. And just when you think you’ve won, there’s a whole new game.

-Tucker MacDonald

This book is about a group of people, each having the same harmonica, and each meeting each other during an orchestra. This book is divided into 4 parts, 3 of the beginning ones each leaving off on a cliffhanger, then being concluded in the 4th part. This book was a interesting way to structure a book, I believe, and I enjoyed it. The first part is staged in WWII, with a boy named Otto. Otto meets three mysterious sisters and suddenly finds himself in a puzzling quest involving a prophecy, a promise, and a harmonica. The second part is about an orphan, who owns the same harmonica, and the third about a young girl with a brother in the army who had moved and played the harmonica. (I won't talk about fourth part because it is a spoiler)I enjoyed this book because it was a different kind of book that I have read. It was a mix of history, and fun parts. The book included some parts that were a bit slow, but also some that went a bit fast. The book overall was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a book they don’t have to read for school. In conclusion, this was a 3 part book, which was a big adventure, and the stories had a lot in common, I would recommend this.

Divergent, by Veronica Roth, the book talks about Chicago after it had been destroyed. The society is divided in five fractions defined by their personalities. When Beatriz, the narrator, turns sixteen years old, she needs to do a test to decide what fraction she is from but her test is inconclusive, what means she is a divergent, that is something scary for the society and that is when the story starts and Beatriz needs to hide this information no matter what.

I really like these book because I really like how the author develops the story. Also because this book presents romance and action what is my two favorite kinds of book, on that book we never know what is going to happen next, what makes me want read more. I love how Beatriz is brave in the middle of the situations and how she faces the situations. Also I really like the other principal character Four, he helps to develop the story making it interesting and not boring at all.Divergent is a amazing book with new surprises and new problems in each page of the book.

  Valentina Maull

13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher

My favorite book from over these last 6 weeks would definitely have to be 13 reasons why by Jay Asher because it’s about a situation that can happen in life and is actually realistic. This book is about a girl named Hannah Baker who was in high school and committed suicide and before she died she made 7 tapes with 13 parts and each part was about someone from her school and why they made her kill herself or just why they made her life get overall worse. She explains her story and what happened to her and makes it as if you were there. What I love about this book is how the author made it so realistic and I also love how there is moments in this book where Hannah actually talks to the reader and gets you to connect with her. This book also makes you feel more aware if you see someone around you that is having any of those problems to try to be that one person that brightens their day and actually give the person with suicidal thoughts an actual reason to live. -Sierra Sasevich

Pakistan was a place of peace, even if it was not perfect, until the Taliban came. War and crime broke out throughout all of Pakistan, but one girl chose to rise up against it. When school was taken, and culture was erased, Malala chose to fight back in I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai. She continued to successfully protest, even after many death threats, until she was shot. Even after Malala recovered, she continued to protest. She received a Nobel prize and went on to give many influential speeches, and to this day, she still is helping people all over Pakistan get more rights and live better lives.

I am Malala is a fascinating book to read because it shows a different perspective on life than ours. I am Malala shows a more difficult perspective on life and how it affects you. The book engages you in scenes and is very successful in showing tone. Using the environment and characters, Yousafzai is able to create suspense and create many different moods throughout the story. Yousafzai is able to immerse you in the book and make you feel as if you were at each situation, but many parts become slow, and it lost my attention. I am Malala is a generally great book, even though it does get slow at times; I believe that Malala Yousafzai created a story that shows a different perspective of life and did it in a great way.
-Aiden Afshar

The book, Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis is an amazing book and I highly recommend it if you like fictional adventure mysteries. In the story the four kids are magically transported to a mythical world called Narnia, where they have to defeat a witch who has taken rule over the country and cursed a nasty spell over the people and manipulated the weather into a permanent winter until the children arrive and defeat the witch and return Narnia to summer. The children go on interesting journeys and adventures during their time spent in Narnia and are told of being in a prophecy that when two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve enter Narnia they are to help defeat the witch and be crown the four kings and queens of Narnia.

I enjoyed the book because the author had such an amazing way of telling the story and using a wild imagination to create a whole new world filled with magic. The author used the way of a child’s imagination and making it feel like a reality when reading it. The books bring the magic into the real world and incorporate it to the children’s live and it helps them with being able to find who they are and what they want to be and also how to live an alternate life in a magical world which can really tap into someones imagination and keep them reading as long as you find interest to the world. The author had an amazing tone set and he was able to help describe all the events through the 7 books of Narnia and he manages to maintain some of the main ideas and original plot but also add in new characters and interferences along the way of the children's journey to getting home but also helping Narnia with whatever quest brought the children there in the first place but the quest/goal will change every visit so they children are never repeating the same things but they still keep the friends and relationships that they have made in their past visit and made allys and being able to keep peace with the duties of being kings and queens. This book will not disappoint when reading and nor will the rest of the series. I recommend this book and the series to anyone who has a vivid imagination and/or people who like adventure mystery/sci-fy, or people who want to read more styles of literature like this.

While she was living in California she stayed with a large family named the Michies, and attended San Sebastion High School. When she is at high school she meets this boy named Phillip, Phillip is on the basketball team and all of the girls like him. Lucky for Shelley she sits next to him in science, Shelley starts to notice that she likes Phillip. Phillip comes over to the Michies house to hang out with Shelley.

When I first started to read this book I really liked it because it was very light hearted and up-lifting. However as I kept reading this book it got to be a little bit of a slow read, and their wasn’t very much action going on throughout the chapters. I thought that maybe it was just a slow part in the book and it will become interesting again after I keep reading for the next few chapters. If i do keep reading i hope that their is a plot twist to the story, or a lesson that could be learned. Overall this book is not bad, but I do think that it needs more of a twist, or lesson involved.

by: Beverly Cleary

In A Long Time Until Now by Michael Z. Williamson, ten soldiers in Afghanistan find themselves lost in time. The soldiers arrive in the Paleolithic era. With no idea of how they got there, they find various groups that also found themselves lost in time. The soldiers learn from various groups, creating weapons, structures, and even learning new cultures. In the past, they struggle to fight with their modern weapons because of their limited ammunition and tries to not alter the future.

I love history and that is the main reason why I love this book. A Long Time Until Now is not a book of action but instead teaches you about the lives of the past. Williamson sucks the reader into the past with his imagery, showing how the groups ate, fought, smelled, and communicated. After getting sucked into this world, you feel just like a character along on the ride. To conclude, A Long Time Until Now is a must read if you love history because you feel like a soldier learning about the lives of ancient civilizations.
-Chris Ruff

In Ungifted by Gordon Korman, Donovan Curtis, an average, prankster kid at Hardcastle middle is accidentally sent to an academy for gifted kids. Donovan tries and does whatever he can to try to fit in, and he joins the robotics team despite knowing knowing nothing about robots. He teaches many of the kids to relax a little bit, and have some fun; this is shown when he names the robot “Tin Man.” Eventually, he gets caught and is expelled from the school, but he learned a lot and made a huge positive impact on the school.

Ungifted is a must read for anybody from the age of 11-16. It is very engaging to the reader because of all the suspense. We get to know Donovan as a character, and are really rooting for him to succeed. Korman's writing is very detailed and easy to read. The plot is very interesting, and really captivates you. Overall, Ungifted is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it.

Sophie Boxwala

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (Avery Redfern)

Sixteen year old Starr Carter is struggling to find a balance between her suburban prep school and her poor neighborhood, in Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give. During this anxious time, she witnesses a policeman fatally shoot her unarmed childhood friend. Soon, the whole nation knows and the divide between her two worlds becomes known. People protest and rally for justice, they speak for him at funerals and at riots. Others label him as a drug dealer and a thug, attempting to justify his death. Drug lords, cops, and even her friends attempt to shake her down and intimidate her into staying quiet. During this time Starr is able to see who her true family is, and who she can trust.

The Hate U Give is one of the best books that I have read, for multiple reasons. First off, it is an amazingly written novel that the reader is able to visualize and immerse themselves in to the scenes. Angie Thomas took her time to craft an amazing book that takes us on a journey filled with twists and turns. Second, the material of the book is something that is, sadly, occurring in our daily life situations. By reading this book, you are able to understand the other side of the story that many of us are not able to see due to either lack of coverage or our own apathy and ignorance. This book will show you the sad truth of our society when it comes to racism and racial prejudices. However, by exposing this content to yourself, you are able to work on educating yourself and others around you. This isn’t just a book, this is a journal of our society, and a bridge between the hypothetical and the literal. All in all, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is a novel that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and quite frankly, could leave you in tears.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan, is about a boy who lives with his caring mother and crummy stepfather. He has Dyslexia and ADHD and little does he know he is a demigod to one of the big three Greek gods, Poseidon. He and his mother were attacked by a Minotaur and his mother was taken to the underworld. Percy is introduced to Camp Half-Blood and he talks to an Oracle to find how to get his mother back. He takes his friends Grover, and Annabeth on the journey to find and get his mother.
I like this book because it displays not only emotion and action, but in doing so is very descriptive. Percy and his friends are attacked by many beings in Greek mythology which I also really love. I find interest in Greek mythology because it shows me interesting ways of defeating mythical creatures. Such as when Percy kills a Minotaur, he uses its own horn to stab its chest and kill it. One final reason I love this book is that of the beautifully displayed tension, like how Percy or his friends get clutch under pressure and complete their tasks.

Do you love chocolate? Or have you ever believed in magic? If you do, the book This Book Is Not Good For You from by Pseudonymous Bosch brings both of these to life. The third book in the Secret Series is about how the three main protagonists, Cass (Cassandra), Max-Earnest, and Yo-Yoji (Yoji) continue to prevent Dr. L. and Ms. Mauvis, who are evil alchemists and leaders of the Midnight Sun, from learning the Secret to eternal life. In this book, the three kids meet a mysterious chef named Señor Hugo, who turns out to be part of the Midnight Sun. He kidnapps Cass’s mom and will only spare her life if the three young Terces Society members give him the an ancient Tuning Fork that possesses the power to make any food taste like anything you’ve tasted before. During Cass’s, Max-Ernest’s, and Yo-Yoji’s quest of finding Cass’s mom, they learn something very valuable about the secret as Cass travels back in time for a brief moment in her memory.

I liked this book because the author gives each of our characters a unique personality and the plot has a lot of interesting twists and turns. For example, Cass considers herself a survivalist, Max-Ernest wants to become a comedian or magician when he grows up and just can’t stop talking, while Yo-Yoji has his own band and is probably seen as the “coolest” of the trio, as he plays the electric guitar in a band and uses slang, such as the word “yo”. An example of the plot would be that at first, Senor Hugo appears to be blind and a person that they can trust (except that Cass doesn’t like him very much at first sight), but it is later revealed that he is only blind in one eye and is actually part of the Midnight Sun. The author of this series also relates the characters in the story to his own life, which adds a little bit of humor into the story. He talks about how he loves dark chocolate and hates writing about how chocolate could be such an evil thing in the story.

Overall, I would totally recommend this book for anyone who likes suspenseful and action stories.
-Angie Hou p1

Albus Severus Potter has a lot to live up to, especially because his father is the famous Harry Potter and he was named after two extremely important figures in the wizarding world. In J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne’s The Cursed Child, the story follows Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley’s child, Albus, and his best friend, Scorpius Malfoy. The Cursed Child is a sequel to the Harry Potter series and it includes the two boys attempting to save someone who died for Harry, but they end up wreaking havoc in their world. You will see Albus and Scorpius develop an amazing friendship as they grow up together and almost lose each other trying to save someone else’s life.

Overall, The Cursed Child is a great read, but it can get boring at times. However, there is a lot of action and conflicts between characters that make you never want to put the book down. A great part of The Cursed Child is reading how the friendship between Albus and Severus develops because they were unlikely friends, but they end up being as close as brothers. You never know what’s going to happen next in this book and everything that does happen leaves you with your jaw on the floor. The Cursed Child is a book that I highly recommend, even though it can be a little repetitive at times.

The fantasy fiction Rangers Apprentice Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan begins with a young boy, named Will, grow up in a ward or orphanage in medieval times. The Rangers books are a series about Will growing up and doing amazing things. Book one begins with Will and his wardmates growing up and get jobs to live up to at a young age. Will was not special in any way so during the choosing, or when they are assigned jobs, nobody wanted to pick him. Will is secretly recruited by the ranger core, a group of fifty special trained men, and begins his adventures as a apprentice of the most famous ranger Halt.

I liked book one in the series since like all series’ it starts you with something or in other words a new beginning. I love reading about survival, adventure, or fantasy so when I got this series recommended to me by Isaac I was immediately intrigued. This series had all of the three things I loved embedded in it so I continued reading. In book one, Will starts out as a runt who became an extremely skilled ranger who became a hero when he killed the Kalkara

In the Story The Fever Code by James Dashner, it's about the maze and how it was built, its also about how the main character, Thomas, grows up to become a full grown man. When Thomas was young he was taken by people who called themselves WICKED ( Stands for World In Catastrophe, Killzone, or another word for brain, Experiment Department) because there was something called the flare which turned people crazy and his dad was infected with it but Thomas was special because he was immune to the flare. Because of this, he worked with the company WICKED and helped them build a maze for people to enter and complete this maze so WICKED can study their Killzone to see a difference from their Killzone to the other people who aren’t immune to the flare so they find a cure for the flare. This story is about a boy named Thomas who becomes a grown man and helps WICKED achieve their goal: To find a cure for this disease: The Flare.
I liked the book The Fever Code by James Dashner because it was descriptive and I liked the plot about the story. But the one thing I didn’t like about it is that they did nothing, there was nothing exciting about The Fever Code. I also really liked it because when I first started reading the series, I always wondered how it was built and how the story really came to life. I also really liked the setting which was in a big facility and the speech of how they would always do something as they are talking. I also really liked that Thomas and his friends thought that the company WICKED was actually good when their company was literally called WICKED like they were wicked. Lastly, I liked how they tried to find a cure for the flare when really they were finding nothing about the flare and how to find a cure like I would've figured out that WICKED was finding nothing about the flare so I would’ve just left WICKED.

Jenna, the baby girl, is now ten, and finds out where she really comes from and who she truly is, and Silas and Sarah Heap find out the destiny of the seventh son of the seventh son.

I love Magyk because it entails adventure, fantasy, and family/friendship, making it awesome to read. It doesn’t take a long time to get interested in it, you read the first page and you get drawn into the story and the characters. Angie Sage makes is so that you never know what to expect, and you’re always at the edge of your seat. You get to read the book from the view of all the main characters, and even the side antagonists when needed. Reading this, I can imagine everything that’s happening. The character’s expressions, the scenery, and how they’re feeling. I feel like I am connecting with the characters, and am always cheering for them to overcome their various struggles. I definitely recommend this book to all lovers of fantasy, adventure, and family/friendship.

- Cerise Campbell

The book Leviathan Wakes, By James S.A. Corey , is a science fiction novel depicting the life and state of humanity in the 24th century. Humanity colonized mars, the belt, and the moons of multiple nearby planets such as the moons of jupiter or saturn. Now, the major superpowers are Earth and Mars. The asteroid belt is like the third world countries of the future, a melting pot of cultures, even with it’s own language. The people in the belt are called belters, and evolved to be very tall for a human because of their live in low or no gravity. The story goes in depth of how different cultures and movements evolve as humanity expands its reaches. I like this book because it goes in depth of the lives of different people on different planets/asteroids, and shows the racial and economical crisis in the belt, like now in some countries. The world we know has evolved to giant space ships, evolved humans, and even hyper erffective military warfare. This book is a rich, detaileed view at the dilemas, breakthroughs, and the expansion of humanity to the outer reaches of space.

During the book there is a kid named Troy who really likes football has to go to a school that has a terrible football team were no one plays, but he has to go there because his dad left him and took all of their money so they can’t go to the private school with a great football team. So then he talks with the principal and they talk about getting a new field and stuff but then they can’t because the school doesn't have the money for that stuff. So then he ends up finding freinds to play and he get a retired NFL player to coach the team. So then Troy ends up thinking that they are going to get a perfect season with the players and a retired NFL player as there coach. All in All this is a great book and I hope you read it, most likely if you like football you would read it.

Citra Terranova and Rowan Damisch are two teenagers living in a postmortal time where death does not come naturally. Your only means of dying are by a Scythe, who are an elite class of superior beings that have to meet a certain “glean” quota to prevent overpopulation. The two teens are selected by a Scythe to become apprentices, and eventually real Scythes. However, things go terribly awry when their master mysteriously perishes one day, sending Citra and Roman to two separate Scythes. The two are forced to compete with each other to determine who the better Scythe will be, and only one can emerge victorious. The victor will have to glean the other. In other words, losing means death.

Scythe is quite possibly my favorite book for many different reasons. It is full of action, mystery, and suspense. You are constantly left wondering what will happen next. Also, Neal Shusterman is an amazing author who truly develops each character. Another nice touch is the fact that the book has many different perspectives. This enables the reader to see what everyone is thinking, providing a much better read. I would suggest Scythe to anyone and everyone, as it is an overall phenomenal book
-Ariyan Madani

The Hate U Give (Angie Thomas)

“The hate U Give” by Angie Thomas, is a very important book for our future. In Garden heights, a black girl named Starr goes to a private school. She is distraught when her friend is shot by a police officer, when she was right next to him. In this book, you will find how Starr will overcome her challenges and speak up for what's right.

“The Hate U Give” is and amazing book, that gives you an insight on what happens in America. The book has won many awards, has five stars, and was just put in theaters, as an award winning motion picture film. The racism in America is greatly impacting out country. People of different cultures should be based of the person they are, not the color of their skin. This is a perfect example and insight of African American life today. Overall, the book is not just an amazing read, but I think every child should read this, to abolish racism in the future!
Paden Flaster-

She goes through many challenges while attending Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Beals has to endure constant name-calling, acidity straight into her eyes, sexual assault, and even more challenges that one could not possibly think of.

Warriors Don’t Cry is an important story that shares awareness of the struggles that black people had to go through during the times of segregation in America. Beals is unafraid to share her remarkable story that changed the world, all the way to today. If she did not face her fears, the world would be torture for African-Americans today. Overall, Warriors Don’t Cry is a captivating story, and I recommend it to all.

His dad has anger issues and him constantly harasses him and his mom. In addition, he has been kicked out of several schools previously for the supernatural actions he has done. But his world is about to completely change for good.

Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is a great book for a variety of reasons. One example is that Riordan uses incredible descriptive detail to create amazing imagery. Another example is that the story is unique and Riordan finds a way to make the story appealing to all readers. The plot of the story is also different and has a weird twist. The story also has multiple events that are exciting and constantly keep the reader hooked. Finally the book has a wide variety of settings and Riordan does a great job of informing the reader in the change in setting.

A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer is an autobiography describing his experiences through child abuse. After the school nurse finds out about Dave’s bruises and wounds, the nurse escorts him to a meeting with police officer who takes him away, freeing him from his abusive mother. The memoir then continues, talking about Dave’s earlier years when his mom treated him like a member of the family, being nice and kind. However, Dave’s relationship with his mom goes downhill and spirals out of control, turning into full on child abuse, describing his mother’s punishments and death-threatening games, along with his healthy relationship with his dad. But, when Dave’s father leaves, Dave is completely torn and has no hope to be free or desire to live. The story ends as they are driving away from the motel Dave’s dad is dropped of at with Dave praying in the backseat, hoping things will get better.

A Child Called “It” is a book I enjoyed because it is a first hand experience, as well as it being very interesting. Because Dave Pelzer is the author and the child in the story, it gives the reader a deeper description and understanding of the story. Also, this book was very hooking as I just wanted to know what would happen next. Even though it is a little intense, Dave does a good job of making you feel connected to him as you get to know his thoughts and feelings. After a while of reading the book, it is like you are living with him and I just wanted to know why his mom was doing this. There was so much in this book that I was wondering about, it just kept me thinking. Overall, A Child Called “It” is a very intense but excellent book that you won’t be able to put down!

Write your review here: A world where pigs reign above all of mankind and have a civilization of animals can be found only in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Animals developed like a civilization and eventually developed into a self running productive farm. The story revolves around Snowball and Napoleon, two pigs that lead the animals to highs and lows until Napoleon drove Snowball out seeking power. Napoleon is a power hungry, contradictory leader that eventually leads the animals to defeat.I enjoyed reading Animal Farm because of the interesting plot. The animals are meant to represent characters from the Russian Revolution where Old Major represents Vladimir Lenin, Jones is represented by Czar Nicholas II, Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, and Snowball is Leon Trotsky. I find this very interesting because they are represented by animals and are seemingly very intelligent. I recommend this book to people who will understand the plot because it will become more engaging and exciting. Once you start Animal Farm, you won’t want to stop reading!

Each member of the family posses a special magical power that they receive when they turn thirteen. Mibs, the main character in Savvy by Ingrid Law, turns thirteen and finds out her special savvy. Mibs and her friends go on a wild journey on her birthday to Salina Hope Hospital to save her father with her savvy.

I strongly recommend this book because it shows you the power of faith and perseverance. Savvy teaches you that everyone is special in their own way and to be proud of your differences. The book Savvy lets you connect to the characters as you read their inner thinking. Ingrid Law emphasizes that some courage and perseverance can go a long way, even in tough times. You really get to know Mibs and are always cheering for her. Once you start reading it you can’t put it down. If you liked the Percy Jackson series you definitely want to read this series. At 15 years old, Wiesel is deported to Auschwitz, a concentration camp that is responsible for the deaths of 1.1 million people. Night is a haunting story that shows the terror of the horrible time and uses gruesome details to show the horrific things that happened to so many people, including members of Elie’s family.

Night is a very important book to read because what happened in the story really happened. We have to read this book to remember what happened and to prevent it from happening again. I enjoyed this book because of the overall message of not losing hope and because it was written very well and the sometimes slow, sometimes urgent writing style goes well with the piece. Overall, this book was very good and an important book to read. ★★★★★

In “The Black Pearl” this book, the main character was a boy. He was a timid and has a tiny body. His father was a pearl dealer. When he was young, his father told the boy that he sold a lot of pearl stuff. One day, when he was diving, he finds a “Great pearl of heaven”. All the villagers were proud of him and didn’t think he was a timid person anymore. After his father died, he began to travel. When he was going back to the village, he saw the biggest monster in the world who lived in the sea in which the pearl he wanted was. Then they were fighting, and he didn’t lose the pearl. He went back to the village.

The reason I chose this book is that the title makes me interested. When the monster and the boy was fighting, the author used sounds, what it looked like or felt like, to present how it went. It almost made me feel like I was in the book. The author also used funny dialogue to show the character’s personality. The fact that the boy in this book went from a timid person to a be everyone’s pride was really touching. When his father died, I was able to feel the moods of the characters. I would like to read another book like this!
Zoe

Write your review here: Yanek Gruener is only 10 years old, when the Germans invaded Poland, and walled in the Jewish ghetto. Over time the Natzies trucked out multiple people out of the ghetto. To different camps. Yanek Lasted for a while, but one day while he was working, They took him out to a place where his relatives and parents had gone. But his family was not able to work hard enough to stay alive. So the only person that was able to work hard enough was Yanek’s uncle. Overtime they worked every day, until one day they were moved to a different camp. This camp was run by a complete psycho and he would kill people for no reason. One day as Yanek was coming back from his work, he was informed that the camp director had killed his uncle. So after that Yanek was sent to different camps for many months. Finally after over 10 camps the Americans had reached him. He found different people that he knew from before it all started. Eventually he moved to America and married one of the cousins of somebody he knew. This story starts, and ends well. But the middle sometimes gets boring and repetitive. So overall I would rate it about 4.5 stars.

So far in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by J.K. Rowling, (spoilers!) Harry has been having dreams of current events through a snake’s point of view. In one of these dreams, the snake bit Arthur Weasley, and was causing him to bleed to death. If it wasn’t for Harry’s dream, Arthur would be dead. After this, Harry thinks that he is Voldemort’s secret weapon and that Voldemort was controlling him. Because of this, Harry isolated himself from his friends for their protection and safety.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is an enjoyable book to read because of J.K. Rowling’s way of describing the characters, and making everything seem very real. The plot of this story makes me get lost in another world. The story is very engaging, and is always filled with action that never leaves me bored. The adventures that Harry goes on are packed with description and detail that makes me feel connected to the characters. By knowing the thoughts and feelings of the main characters, it gives me a better understanding of the story, and makes me want to just keep reading more.

The book Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, is about a girl who is different from everyone else at her high school. She dresses different, is socially awkward, and sings randomly to people. Her name is Susan but since that was not unique enough she changed it to Stargirl. Over the course of the book, Stargirl meets a boy named Leo whom she later on starts dating. Leo tells Stargirl has if she does not change the way she acts and dresses that he will break up with her. She realizes that she doesn't want to change her personality for a guy so she does not continue to see him. In the end of the book, she ends up running away and never comes back. I enjoyed reading this book specifically because It had a lot of detail/drama that kept me reading and wondering what would happen next in the book. I also liked this book because it was the perfect length and was not too long of a book of too short. The author also made the characters very easy to relate to. Over all, Stargirl was an awesome book that I enjoyed reading.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

The constant pressure and pounding, anxious fear of knowing what’s going down at the end of the day; you. Imagine a world where you were told you were going to die in the next 24 hours. People would be reckless, unafraid, and as happy as can be if they did not get the call. However, for the unlucky few that won the death lottery and got the alert, it is the worst day of their lives. Two 18-year-olds, Rufus and Mateo, find each other coincidentally through an app. No matter how interestingly they met, the emotions and growth they experience on their end day leave you sitting back and just thinking, whoa, every single time you have to put the book down. Author Adam Silvera impeccably captures the extreme emotions humans experience when faced with death and the true cruelness of man altogether. He knows that we do not make smart choices, but there are a few people in this world that will never hurt a soul and have very strong hearts. These facts are evident in the text of “They Both Die at the End,” and the pages scream the negative traits of man that we just let fall between the cracks.

In all of the books I have read, I have never come across something like “They Both Die at the End,” mostly because I usually stick to fantasy. I learned how impactful this book was at the very end when you just have to step back and think about everything you just read. Down to the last sentence, you connect with the characters and feel the anticipation as they do. The fact the characters know they are going to die and so do you enables you to feel and almost survive with Rufus and Mateo as you would with a real human being. Silvera puts so much soul into this book that you can feel how he did as you are reading it. To everybody reading this book review, if you want to experience this feeling of urge and anticipation until the very end where you can finally fully envisage the meaning of the story, this is an extremely well-written book that should be your next read.

Three children in different eras all share one thing in common: They all are on the search for refuge. 12-year-old Josef is a Jewish boy in Nazi Germany in 1939 - with the threat of concentration camps surrounding his family, he and his family go on a search for safety. 11-year-old Isabel is a Cuban girl living in 1994 - with multiple riots and plaguing in her country, her and her family set out on a raft, hoping to find safety in America. Lastly, 12-year-old Mahmoud is a Syrian boy in 2015 - with his home torn apart from devastating tragedies, he and his family make a long trek for Europe. Although they are separated by decades and countries, these children will face shocking dangers and challenges - some of which will bond their stories in the end.

Refugee is an entertaining read because of the movement and suspense packed into it. Alan Gratz develops packed action that sucks the readers in the book, guessing what will happen next. This book is also fascinating because of the way that you can learn a little about history, but still feel interested at the same time. Although the characters are fictional, you can really feel the emotions they are feeling in this book, and the sorrow and grief they feel when you are reading it. By knowing their feelings, you can feel sorry for them as if they are a real person. Overall, Refugee is amusing, and you won’t want to put it down!

She and her friend Curtis get caught up in the chaos of the wood and go on wild journeys to try and restore the peace and prosperity of the Wood.

Wildwood is not only an enjoyable, action-packed read, but it is also beautifully written. The Nazis are killing and sending people away while Japanese are being hated and separated from society.

Echo is a good book because it puts the main characters in struggles that they need to get out of. These have a big impact on both the characters and the reader. The book is set in World War II so there are already many problems but this is amplified by the personal problems of the characters. Though all of the characters are different. There is one thing that connects all of them. Their love for music. More specifically, the harmonica, which is very symbolic and important throughout the book. This book has many memorable moments that I found interesting and exciting.

Then something weird happens. Margo goes missing the day after. The author made sure to include a variety of characters and the way that they all fit in together with each other is incredible. The book is really cool because you seem to be in on different secrets that are just with you and Quentin, and when people mention things, it’s fun to guess their reactions and responses. The book is really engaging and intense, but also perfect because of the sly humor. I think that Paper Towns is an excellent book and I would definitely recommend it.

***** SPOILER ALERT ***** Ranger Apprentice Will had escaped from Skandian Slavery and was living safely with Evelyn. Meanwhile, Halt and Horace continued their quest to rescue Will from Skandia in Ranger’s Apprentice, The Battle for Skandia, by John Flanagan. Evelyn became captured by Temujai, fierce warriors from the Eastern Steppes. They planned to take over Skandia’s ports and then use their ships to conquer Will’s homeland, Aurelian. After Horace, Halt and Will rescue Evelyn, they team up with the Skandians to stop the Temujai.I really liked Ranger’s Apprentice, The Battle for Skandia because of the battle strategies and the exciting action. The author realistically describes the fantasized battle, explaining in detail each character's actions with his or her weapon. Flanagan makes the book hard to put down because of his compelling description and development of the characters, and his easy to follow plot. This book had me constantly craving to know what would happen next with thrilling twists and suspenseful scenes. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this book and series to anyone desiring a fun action-filled story.

The book is then split into two different point of views. Someone from the poor sector of the US and the rich sector. These people from the sectors eventually meet up and start an exhilarating adventure.

I liked this book because it took two characters and made them have their own thoughts and feelings. It was like reading two different books that lead into each other. This book also started out to seemingly be just a book about a wanted criminal. Another reason why I like this book so much is because it is similar to the hunger games and I also really liked that book.

Elias Manno

The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart, tells the story of four extraordinary kids and their mission to reveal the truth once and for all. In a town called Stonetown, Reynie, Kate, Constance, and Sticky succeeded in completing a series of difficult puzzles and tests. Little did they know, but they would soon be sent to a seemingly innocent boarding school in the hopes of dismantling a malicious plan to take over the world. It was their mission to sabotage a mind-reading and thought-transmitting device called the Whisperer and its master, Mr. Curtain. Through creativity, intellect, teamwork, and pure stubbornness, they were able to achieve the impossible.

This book is a winding pathway of ups, downs, and just plain confusion. The conflict is constantly keeping you in surprise because of how well executed it is. Furthermore, The Mysterious Benedict Society is one of my favorite books of all time because of its relatable and flawed characters. Throughout their journey on Nomansan Island, every single person (no matter how confident they may seem) begins to doubt themselves for reasons like not being a good enough leader, being useless, or being too brave. Something about them makes you want to take a look in the mirror and think to yourself, what makes me a good friend? If I could give this amazing book 6 stars, I truly would - trust me.

Gangs are a very bad thing and to have many gangs in one small part of town can cause some trouble. The book the outsiders is a book about a family whose parents have left and could not take care of the kids. Ponyboy is a young kid who can rely on his two older brothers Sodapop Darry. They have two friends Johnny and TwoBit. They are a small poor kid gang who are rivals with the Socks. The socks are a rich kid gang who think a good time is to beat on the Greasers, the poor kids. This book had absolutely no boring parts and has a constant update on what's happening and when it’s happening. The author, S.E. Hinton develops suspense and Anxiety throughout the story. Ponyboy is the youngest of the brothers and has to rely on them for his survival. Sodapop and Darry are constantly looking out for him and keep him safe under there control. I felt bad for the kids while reading it because of how there life has been put out in front of them with constant beatings and death from both parents. All in all, The Outsiders is fantastic and doesn’t leave you feeling bored.

So he broke every rule in the rulebook and got points for every stunt he pulled. Detention was a big deal scoring extra points. Also extra points was getting this one girl that he liked to look over or see what he did or get her to smile.

This book, Middle School, the Worst years of my life, is about how middle schoolers have to deal with what they think school is like. Some kids, like Rafe don’t Like school, they want to have fun, hang out with friends, not study, and maybe break some rules. I enjoyed this book because he is sort of like me. I don’t really like school that much, but I have good grades and don’t try to break all the rules. It would be a great book for someone who doesn't like to read or an advanced 5th grader.

Ready Player One I give this book 10 out of 5 star rating! My genre of books is mostly based around action/comedy and magic or futuristic action so Ernest Cline’s, Ready Player One fits the (quite small!) mold. Ready Player One takes place in a futuristic setting in 2045, but is not anything like you would think when you hear the word futuristic! Most of Earth’s natural resources are severely depleted and the planet has become (In most parts) a wasteland. However, there is one thing left in the disaster stricken planet for people to enjoy. The OASIS. Short for Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation, this device allows people to be fully immersed in a virtual reality that is just as realistic as the world around them. Using this device, Wade Watts must search to find a hidden treasure that will unlock the developers wealth and fame all for him and his friends. Along the way he has to avoid the people who will kill to get the treasure and deal with some of his other personal problems. I Highly recommend this book for people looking for an amazing action/adventure book that makes it feel like the pages are turning themselves!

John Green sends the reader through an emotional and comical experience in Paper Towns as the protagonist Quentin, also known as ‘Q’, Jacobsen, whose boring life is turned upside down when the stunning Margo Roth Spiegelman moves in next door. They became friends and go on many adventures, and it’s all fun and games until one day they find a dead body lying in the park. After many years they drifted apart until one night in high school when Margo climbs into Q's bedroom and invites him to join her on a mission of revenge. They have their night of adventure, but when Q wakes up in the morning, Margo has vanished. The main plot then follows Q and his friends as they try to uncover the cryptic clues Margo left behind. The many clues ultimately lead Q and his friends to a “paper town” in New York where she says she wants to stay and says goodbye to Q for the last time.

I enjoyed the reading Paper Towns because of its mystery and action throughout. Green begins the novel with a captivating hook and prologue then continued to keep the reader’s attention by proving an immense sense of mystery and suspense through the rising action up to the climax. The topics/characters depicted in the story are relatable for many and it is set in our modern time period which makes it enjoyable for may to read and relate to. In addition, it teaches you many lessons both about life and modern situations one may find themselves in high school. Through these reasons and others, John Green made reading Paper Towns a very entertaining experience.
