  • Hindenburg reluctantly appointed S. as Chancellor on 3 December 1932
  • 4 January 1933 von P. sees S. is having difficulty keeping Reichstag majority and see chance to seize power
  • von P. privately schemes with Hitler to work together, they decide Hitler will be Chancellor and he will be Cabinet
  • 22 January 1933 von Paper asked Hindenburg to make Hitler Chancellor but he refused
  • 28 January 1933 von S. resigns and admits defeat
  • 30 January Hindenburg wants von back but he is unpopular, doesn't matter if Hitler is Chancellor, as long as there weren't too many Nazis

    Promises to voters
    -every sector heard something they wanted to hear
    -workers promised jobs, employers promised profits, farmers higher prices, shopkeepers protection from competition 

    Flexibility 
    -If an idea was losing them support they would change it
    -doesn't matter what you promised as long as people trust you 
    -If all else failed the Nazis went to vague promises : Germans were very unsure as to what the Nazis really stood for 

    Hitler the superman
    - hysical appearance was adapted on posters 
    -Developed his speech making skills: it didn't matter what he said it is how he said it 

    Weakness of opposition
    - Other parties were very weak and they constantly underestimated the Nazis
