It affected nearly 800 homes, and killed over 400 people, so many people who lives outside of Queensland must have lost a relative then, and it was probably a hard time. It affected the economy in sugar and bananas. After a few weeks Cyclone Yasi struck, tourists stopped flying there as well, impacting on the hotels and airline’s profits and economy. Due to this cyclone, there was a lot of toxic waste that ended up in the ocean, which means that some coral may be damaged, but some good impacts are that the reefs that are being damaged have co-evolved with cyclones and cyclones help nutrients go into the sea to improve the base of the marine food chain. Cyclone Yasi also destroyed many trees and left them crashing to the ground. Both the Salvation Army and the Red Cross are focusing on comforting people that lost businesses and home. The Salvos Army then opened a food truck for the people with no food and for people to eat
