The town that they move to is known for ghosts, and Maya is on a mission to meet one, but her sister isn't.
I like this book because it encourages facing your fears and doing things for the ones you love.
This story is good for kids who likes books about ghosts and suspicion in the 3rd-8th grade.
I could use this book to teach about speech bubble and the order you read them.

by Raina Telgemeier
Non Fiction (based on real events)
Read Sept. 10, 2017
Review: This was an interesting story about Raina who was really excited to be a big sister... until her sister was born. With them having completely different personalities and interests, they had to learn to work together because they're family was about to change. In the book they are on a trip to Colorado for a family reunion with their mom, and Raina is giving flashbacks about their relationships and their youth.
I like this story because it is based off of real events. I find book more interesting when I can relate it to my life as well.
This book is interesting for kids who like to read realistic stories about sibling rivalries in the 3-5th grade.
I could use this book to teach about recalling events.

The Baby Sitters Club
by Ann M. Martin and Raina Telgemeier
Fiction
Read Sept.12,2017
Review: This book is a modern version from a previously written BSC book. This book is about a girl named Stacey who is moving to a new town. She meets three new friends and they form a baby sitting club. With Stacey having diabetes there are things she must do to maintain her health and she has a hard time with it (diet, doctors visits), on top of dealing with competition in the baby sitting business.
I like this book because it is relatable to kids with diabetes; the facts about diabetes were updated to modern medicine.
This book would be interesting to kids who have diabetes or know someone with diabetes in grades 3rd-5th.
I could use this book to teach about plots and solutions.

by Raina Telgemeier
Non Fiction
Read Sept. 12, 2017
Review: This is a true story about a girl named Raina. Raina is in sixth grade dealing with a lot of dental issues because she fell after a girls scout meeting, and injured her two front teeth. Other problems she faces are her mean friends that picks on her and boy problems. Raina learns that as she focusses on what she is interested and not her friends interest, she becomes happier and likes herself more as she is.
I like this book because it is funny and it's a true story that assures you the everyone has those bad days, with bad friends; and teaches how to stand up for yourself and have self confidence.
This books is interesting to kids, that like funny books, who are adolescents trying to figure themselves out in grades 3rd-5th and 6th-8th.
I would use this book to guide discussion questions during our grand conversations.
