We often think of cloud storage as something virtual or immaterial, but behind every file we upload to Google Drive or iCloud is a network of massive data centers powered by electricity, cooled by water, and filled with physical servers. These infrastructures require land, labor, and natural resources, yet are invisible in everyday media use. This shows how the ideology of “immaterial media” hides the material systems that support digital life.
