Technology is a very useful tool in the modern age and has advanced incredibly in the past years. The same technology that launched the first spaceship into orbit is in a hand-held calculator. The advance in technology over the years has allowed media production to advance in many different ways. SD cards and USB sticks allow for an easy and fast transfer of data between equipment and software eliminating the need for VHS tapes and their lengthy editing process. Cameras that can record in 5K, underwater, Super slow motion and even fly allowing for a range of different shots and angles that could not have been achieved before opening up the door for more interesting and engaging sequences. Editing software has allowed any person to be able to edit their footage with effects color grading and a multitude of different tools, enabling them to make the most out of their footage and opening the gate to a more efficient form of art and creativity.

Looking at music videos helped me to have a better understanding of my genre and the conventions that I should be including. This helped me with mise-en-scene and deciding various elements in which I would use in my own video, for example upon watching the 1975’s Girls music video I decided that I wanted mine to be studio based with an element of comedy, similar to theirs. After watching almost every video that I analyzed and took inspiration from one of the consistent factors was voyeurism and that showed me that I needed to include that in my video. This enabled me to construct ideas and conventions and to use the analysis of mise-en-scene to use in my videos thus making them more conventional, attractive and engaging.

YouTube and google are havens for information and tutorials for Photoshop premier pro and in design. In design was a new software to me so this was very helpful for any of my queries and allowed me to efficiently create my digipak. YouTube enabled me to sit in the comfort of my own home and learn through step by step guided tutorials at a pace I was comfortable with from a range of different people with a range of different skill levels.

Wordpress was a very good software to use as it enabled me to effectively present my work in an organized way. This allowed me to look back at my work for inspiration and information to help with my existing work. Wordpress also allowed my teacher to make helpful and constructive comments on my blog which helped me improve my work as I go along. Also working online is much more safe and efficient than working on paper; paper can be lost, torn and is not as easily changed or shared with others. It also enables me to look at past blogs for inspiration and help. Other students and people have made blogs that are similar to my own and being able to look at their work was extremely helpful.

Padlet allowed me to present my work in various different ways that are engaging, for example the “wall scroll” feature allowed me to make a series of pages that were presented in the form of a social media timeline, making easier for the viewer to read and easier for me to present any chronological information and easier to make a chain of linked points. The only problem with online presentation software is that they usually make you pay for premium features like making more than 8 files.

MP4 videos allow me to connect with the examiner by allowing them to see what I look like and “speak” to them through the camera, getting my findings across in a personal, different and more engaging way. These were made on premier pro and were good practice for my main video. I enjoyed making these videos in my spare time and as they are more like “vlogs” and require a different style of editing and I enjoyed the change. Vlogs show my personality and give the viewer something to focus on making them more entertaining and keeping the viewers interested. They were also good for presenting information as I was able to verbally say everything that I knew and needed to at the camera and then edit it into a comprehensible and informative video.

Premiere Pro is a software built by the company Adobe that allows people to edit videos and compile them with effects lighting music and various other things to create media texts. Premiere Pro is the software I used to make my video. This is a software that I was already comfortable with and had some knowledge in. This allowed me to make a high-quality video with effects. Editing can be quite a time-consuming process (if done to a high standard) and requires a lot of creativity.

One way that I used the software was with color grading. Not all of the footage that I shot was in the same lighting, so I used premier pros lighting and contrast effect to make sure that all of my clips were at the same brightness and contrast. This enabled me to correct my filming mistakes and provide a better quality video.

The effects library that premier pro had was very helpful as it meant that I could easily add these conventional effects that made my video interesting and fun. I was also able to edit these effects to make them different in any wy I needed to fit my video for example the timing of the “bran door” effect at the end of the video needed to be in time with the beat so I edited the time timing of the effect to match and create thought beats.

I also take a photography A-Level I am constantly using Photoshop for my images. I consider myself to be quite well versed with my Photoshop skills and this gave me an advantage when it came to my magazine advert and digipak. After using InDesign I decided that I really didn’t like it, so I used google and Reddit and eventually found out that I could drag and drop PSD (Photoshop) files into specific panels in InDesign and any changes that I made within Photoshop were instantly made within Indesign. This was amazing for me and allowed me to edit where my skills lay best and produce a good quality product. Editing can be quite a time-consuming process (if done to a high standard) and requires a lot of creativity.

Because of the current rate in which technology is advancing to provide the best quality product media producers need to keep up with the technology.
