It has expanded my view on accommodations and what they mean. We often do not think of the things we do for the dominant group as accommodations because our policies for schools are based on these accommodations. We must first acknowledge that we build our schools for this group and our choices benefit and perpetuate the status quo.

I would define equity as ensuring that all students have access to the opportunities and resources they need to succeed, regardless of skin color, background, or power. It’s about recognizing and addressing barriers so that every student feels valued, supported, and able to reach their full potential.

Shifting from simply providing equal access to understanding the deeper, systemic barriers that shape opportunity. I've come to see equity is not about treating everyone the same. It is about acknowledging how race, power, and policy intersect to advantage some and disadvantage others.
