Students do a lot of work throughout the writing process and to only evaluate the finished product wouldn't be an accurate assessment of their growth, learning, and skills.

2) Writing samples - this is really helpful in college, so its good to model from a younger age too. Gives them a good starting point

3) Work through each writing process step with them (rewriting, drafting, etc.) and give feedback throughout so they can make edits along the way and it's not a huge task to do at the end for the teacher or the studnet
