Then, Adnan and Stephanie were voted prom king and queen which could have set Jay over the edge. This made Adnan jealous and he used his rage to act out this heinous crime. It seems like Jay would be much more likely to commit this awful act when comparing him to Adnan. Don pays someone, could be the person he got to kill Hae or another accomplice, to call the police station anonymously and tell then to look at the ex-boyfriend. He then pays Jay to make up a story about Adnan on the day of the murder and testify to the police that Jay was also partly involved with burying the body. Jay's story changes multiple times because it's a made up story from Don that has many holes that the police easily picked apart. Since their was no payphone at Best Buy, Don calls Jay through Adnan's cellphone between 4:27 and 4:58 to ask if he has successfully killed Hae. So Don felt that jealousy and probably betrayed due the possibility of Hae cheating on him with Adnan.
