Page 35 chapter 7
“Did you hear my new name?” He said? She did not answer, did not look up. “It’s Snots.” A short snorty chuckle burst from her nose, then she was stone-faced again.”
I think this is important because I think that snots was being serious and Dorothy thought he was joking. She then felt bad after and that’s why it says she had a stone-face. I also think it’s Important because it shows that Snots is his new name and changing someone’s name is a big thing.

The character also says that he wishes the pigeon would wake up and start chasing him. It is showing that he doesn’t want to wring it out. He refuses and that’s why it says that he cannot do it.

He never played there, never swung on the swings, never slid down the sliding board, never fed the ducks, never watched a softball game. Most especially, he never went near the soccer field.”
I think that this is important because it shows how much Palmer truly hates the park no matter how hard someone tries to convince him to go. It also talks about how he doesn’t like sports that much either

Thanks to the guys, he finally saw her for the pooper she was. She never laughed, never had any fun. Even one, look at her—just crouching there, not a peep, no screaming, no crying, no running away like any normal girl. Always had to act so big. And three weeks ago, for the first time ever, she had not invited him to her birthday party.
I think this is important becasue this shows that Palmer is becoming “one of the guys” and following everything his friends say, even if it’s mean. Throwing snowballs at Dorothy probably wouldn’t help solve anything between her and Palmer. Palmer said that he “fired with without restraint.” I feel like Dorothy will play an important role in the story because the another pays a lot of attention to her. Dorothy didn’t invite Palmer to her birthday party and Palmer was being really mean to Dorothy. But I don’t blame Dorothy.

The bird pecked at the window pane.
Just what Palmer needed, to be seen in the company of a pigeon. Beans would wring both their necks.
I think this is important because it shows that Palmer is really trying to fit in and be cool. It also shows that he’s sacrificing a lot of things like being nice and his friendship with Dorothy to be one of the guys. I feel like he thinks he has to be perfect for Beans and Mutto so that they can be “friends”. But that’s not really what a friend is. I feel like Beans and Mutto are kind of fake friends but Palmer doesn’t realize that. The relationship that Palmer has with his friends wil probably effect the Palmer or the story in any way.

The setting sun stemmed to have ladled its syrupy light over the crusted snow, so that ordinary house parts and backyards in this fading moment seemed a spectacular raspberry dessert. When his eyes fell to the porch rooftop just outside his window, he saw the four-toed imprints of bird feet etched into the snow.
I think this is important because it shows that the pigeon that shows up in his window is going to have an important role in the story because why else would the author include it? I feel like since he’s so desperately trying to fit in with his friends he’s not going to tell anyone. He might tell Dorothy if he wants to talk to her about something. Dorothy might not care though.

I think this is a very important moment in the book because usually Dorothy has not shown a sign of interest in what everyone else is doing especially what Palmer and his friends are doing to her. After awhile Dorothy would break, and I think that is what we are seeing happen here because she is acknowledging the boys what is what they wanted the hole time. I truly do feel bad for Dorothy because all she wants is to be left alone from the boys. Also I think it makes her extra upset that it also ways seems to be Palmers idea.

He was running out out of answers. ‘Puberty,’ he said. He didn’t know what it meant, but he had heard that it happened to teenagers and that it made them batty, at least in the eyes of grown-ups. ‘Try again,’ she said. ‘You’re too young for puberty.’ ‘I’m very mature for my age,’ he said. ‘Good,’ she said, ‘then you’re mature enough to stay after school for a week.’ “

I think this is very sweet of Palmer because he is doing this, (getting into trouble.) for Nipper, to keep his pigeon safe. I think that this is important because it shows how far Palmer has come. Instead of tree stumping and pulling pranks, he is caring for a bird so it doesn’t die.
