         <description><![CDATA[<div>This webpage from the California Department of Education describes the procedural safeguards that is required and must be provided to parents. This notice is required when a parent asks for a copy, the first time a child is referred for a special education assessment, each time a child is given an assessment plan for evaluation, at the receipt of the first state or due process complaint in a school year,  or when there is a removal that constitutes a change of placement. Furthermore, this article discusses when a prior written notice is required and what is should contain as well as parental consent, due process rights, mediation, and nondiscriminatory assessments. </div>]]></description>

This article explains the differences between an IEP and a 504 plan, who gets an IEP, and why. The article suggests that parents adjust their expectations, prioritize social time for their child, get more involved with their schooling, keep to a schedule, and understand their rights. Distance learning is especially hard for students with disabilities. These families will have to work extra hard to make sure their child is receiving the support they need and that the school is providing the child with the mandated services. This article is interesting and provides parents with a new perspective on distance learning. </div>]]></description>
