Liz:The ipad us used by children to take pictures of their work. Also used to explore apps linked to learning, for example handwriting skills (albeit with a finger tip!) beebot instructions cbeebies games linked to topics pictures for learning diaries. From Sept should have software to complete the learning journeys which will save a huge amount of paper, time and effort. Approx £250.... two in the class. There is huge potential going forward for use of the ipad...the children can help with this!!

We use a few pieces of technology in my setting so it is really interesting to see what others are using. Youtube is a resource I use with my intervention groups. In literacy, the pupils were asked to describe a haunted house. I used Youtube to show the pupils a video which gave them the opportunity to see, hear and get feelings of senses. Their Big Write reflected this as they described lots of feelings.

Switch interface boxes.

This technology is intended to support those with SEN, primarily those with a physical disability to use a switch adaptation to control the microwave/ kettle/ fan, etc. This is good for science lessons, cooking lessons, etc.

Basically you plug in the microwave (for example) and can change the settings to latch control (hand off and it stops), timed control (seconds to minutes), etc. You then attatch a switch and the children can use their hands, feet or heads to control the process.

The cost starts from £140+

Sound buttons are a really good resource for children in the classroom - particularly with supporting writing. Rather than scribing sentences premade by a child down onto a whiteboard for them to copy, the child can record their own sentences.

This is really effective at supporting children with SEN and/or short term memory deficits.
